A Message from the Principal
Happy New Year 2024! I hope that you and your family enjoyed your time together in this season of special celebrations and traditions. We are happy to see our students back safe and sound and ready to engage in the learning for the 2024 year! We are asking that you continue to monitor the health of your child and if your child is feeling just a “little sick”, the best action is to keep them home to ensure they are healthy. Please call the school office or nurse office to update us on your child’s health status. IT takes ALL of us to keep us all safe and healthy!
January is when we begin the BIG push with students to get them ready for the state assessments for grades 3rd-8th. So, we ask that families are diligent with ensuring your children in grades PreK-8th, are ready for school daily, and on time, and prepared for their learning. Please utilize all the online resources to support your child’s academic growth (IXL, iReady, Learning A-Z/Raz-Plus, STMath). We are currently rated as a “B” school and our aim is at minimum to maintain that “B” for the next school year and our desire is to return to being an “A” school. We can not do that without family support.
Robins K-8 is reminding our families to apply for our federal meals program which benefits the school when we have more families that apply and qualify, it’s money back to the school that we use to support after school tutoring, additional reading, and math in-school programs. To ensure that these benefits remain available, it is strongly encouraged that all families review this information and complete an application.
Today, we held a welcome back assembly for all students and a reminder of our PBIS expectations of being safe, responsible, and respectful. We also reviewed our districts code of conduct and dress code of conduct. On January 16th, we have scheduled through our SRO Deputy Petersen, a presentation from the Sheriff’s office to all our middle school students on the “Dangers of Vape and Fentanyl”.
Our elementary track season is here! We have had a great elementary basketball season as well! Our coach, Mrs. Harper, will have practice for grades 3rd, 4th, 5th on January 22nd and 25th from 2:00-2:45p.m. these practices will be considered as “tryouts” We are able to fill a team with up to 40 students. Physicals and appropriate paperwork are needed for participation and tryouts. Participation fee will not be collected until tryouts have concluded. Please see the attached letter.
There is no school is observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on January 15th. Here is my favorite Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quote: “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.”
Please sign up for our PTO Roadrunner Refresh event on Saturday, January 27th. We need your skills and support to beautify our campus. You should have received this year’s Yearbook information , please make sure to place your order online to get the early bird price. There will be no yearbooks sold out of the office, all sales will be online. Spring pictures are on March 5th. Please continue to keep your families safe and healthy! 😊

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade students who were selected for membership in Robins K-8 chapter of National Junior Honor Society. This will be the largest group of students we will have inducted – 20 total! Congratulations students on your amazing academic accomplishments. Thank you to everyone who supported the NJHS food drive this month. Because of your generosity, Robins will be able to assist several families with food boxes. Small groups are in full swing – we will reconvene after the Winter break. If your child is participating in a small group, please check in with your student about what they are learning in group. As we go into the new year, I encourage you to make a choice to be intentional. This doesn’t mean that an intentional life is a perfect life—but it is a purposeful life. It’s finding the courage to let go of things that no longer serve you and to pursue things that make you feel alive and well. Here are a few tips to help you to be more intentional: · Be mindful of the media you consume · Choose to be kind · Do something that brings you joy · Ask “why” before you buy · Practice active listening · Make time for self-reflection · Do something you can be proud of · Question your “have to’s” · Prioritize rest and self-care Robins K-8 remains committed to providing a wonderful learning environment so that our students and families thrive. We hope all of you have a safe and peaceful Winter Break.

Curriculum Corner
Welcome back to school!
As the 3rd quarter is starting, grades 3 - 8 will be preparing for the state testing which will begin in March. It is very important that students are in class daily, on time, and complete homework. Now is an excellent time to connect with your children's teacher(s) to see how they are doing in class and which areas they may need additional support in. We will be holding a parent night soon where you can see the curriculum for quarter 3 and get some ideas for how to support children at home. Please be on the lookout for that! Some other great ways to support your children's learning are to read with them daily, find ways to bring math into daily life, and have students write often. It is also a good idea to make sure that students know their basic math facts. 3rd graders especially need to start memorizing their multiplication and division facts. If students have access to a device at home, they can always use the interventions put in place by TUSD. They have access to all of these programs through Clever. In elementary they can use ST Math, Learning A-Z, IXL, and several others. Middle school has access to IXL, i-Ready, APEX, and many others.
Thank you for your support!
A Message from the Library
Hello, Scholars! Happy New Year!
I hope you enjoyed your break. Hopefully you were able to find any books that you may have lost. You all did so amazing with the reading challenge, and congratulations to the winner of the dragon.
We have a variety of decorations of different cultures displayed all over the library. There are amazing things from India, Africa, and much more. Be sure to check out the Chinese dragon displayed on top of the picture book shelves.
Remember, newly arrived books are still displayed on the shelf to the left once you come into the library.
The book fair will be back in town next month. The last one was great, but I would love to see you all busted for more reading tickets. More information to come at the end of this month.
Happy January and see you in the library!
