ILP-D
We are continuing to learn about ILP-D and communicating that to stakeholders. The latest updates are in our canvas course. Please enroll so that you will have the most up to date information!
Schools should start writing plans for students who qualify for an ILP-D in TN Pulse now. You can identify and write 504 plans for those students who qualify for both an ILP-D and 504 after the winter universal screening window.
A few reminders to consider:
ILP-D plans do not indicate a student is suspected of a disability.
504 plan may indicate a student may have a suspected disability.
For this reason, an ILP-D does not exempt a student from the 3rd grade promotion law. A 504 Plan may exempt a student from a the 3rd grade promotion law.
UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!!
New RTI Platform
We are rolling out a new platform to house RTI student plans. The training will be held on November 7th from 1:30-3:30. However, there has been a change! The training will be virtual. Therefore, you do NOT need to come to Gresham Middle to attend. You may join the training from your school site. Please register using this link by November 3rd to ensure you have the correct access in TN PULSE. Even if you plan to watch the training as a group at your school, please register individually.
In order to fully engage in training, you will need a charged device. Principals recently received a preview of this information. Schools will need to send appropriate personnel to the training. Because the training is being provided by an outside vendor, please make every effort to send at least one representative from your school. We will begin transitioning to this new platform in the second semester. Schools may choose to start with a grade level or new plans and gradually add as the year progresses. Full implementation will begin in Fall 2024. Here is the link to join the meeting.

Data Meetings
Data Meetings may look different as we move forward following new state guidance. The team is tasked with matching interventions with the specific area of deficit for each student, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed. The team needs to meet at least quarterly and after each universal screening window.
Fidelity Monitoring
"In Tier II and Tier III, fidelity is additionally measured by the accuracy or extent to which the instructional methods and materials are used to provide instruction. The goal of fidelity monitoring is to ensure that the intervention is being implemented with integrity and to the specifications of the intervention methodology or program being utilized. LEAs must have a process for monitoring fidelity. This process must include a description of who is responsible for fidelity monitoring and how often fidelity in Tier II and Tier III interventions will be monitored. The purpose of monitoring fidelity is to provide ongoing information about the effectiveness of the provided intervention."
Updated RTI Manual 2023
Remember to conduct fidelity checks: a minimum of 1 direct and 2 indirect per semester for Tier II and Tier III.

Micro Moves to Strengthen Intervention
Word Building/Blending within intervention programs.
Both SPIRE and Voyager include student materials for students to make letter sound connections, manipulate letters, and build/blend words. It is important that these components of lessons be included for ALL students. Additional practice/repetition may be needed for our students with Characteristics of Dyslexia.
Esti-Mysteries: Engage Students in the Joy and Wonder of Mathematics
Steve Wyborney provides a plethora of resourced designed to bring joy to your math classroom. Esti-Mysteries are just one of his many resources that target a diverse set of problem solving and thinking skills while students become detectives to determine the number of items in a container. Students are given clues that are related to a variety of math skills targeting number sense. Esti-mysteries are a great warm-up activity or perfect for a fun Friday activity.

Student Engagement
Dr. Anita Archer: Expert on Student Engagement
Dr. Anita Archer tells us that, "Learning is not a spectator sport." Why is it important to frequently elicit responses from students? Dr. Archer sums it up in 3 main points:
1. Contributes to a positive learning environment
2. Embeds formative assessment in lessons
3. Promotes learning
Her research shows providing students with the opportunity to respond relates to increased academic achievement, increased on-task behavior, and decreased behavioral challenges. Remember, good instruction is good instruction and good instruction includes active participation.
