Legislative Research Fellow
- Conduct research on legislation in the Georgia General Assembly and track media outlets for articles, research and other happenings related to policy topics
- Attend Spencer Frye's Policy Research Academy, an opportunity to learn about various policy areas, how to conduct research and how to publish and share your work
- Publish research and volunteer experiences in our legislative blog Capitol Corner
- Volunteer with community organizations to gain a deeper knowledge of policy related challenges and opportunities as they relate to the Athens community.
Public Relations Internship
The Office of Representative Spencer Frye (D-Athens) is currently hiring Public Relations Interns to begin work immediately. Although the responsibilities of a Public Relations Intern will vary, s/he can expect to be entrusted with the following responsibilities:
- Attending all in-town events Rep. Frye attends and documenting his attendance with video recordings, photos, and/or short interviews to be used in social media and blogs
- Weekly maintenance of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn pages
- Coordinating content generation with other elements of Rep. Frye’s office
- Creating monthly calendars of content for social media outlets
- Following multiple Google alerts set for Rep. Frye
Radio Show Intern
The Office of Representative Spencer Frye is currently hiring Radio Show Interns to begin work immediately. Radio Show Interns will be responsible for developing content and features for Rep. Frye’s Reppin’ GA show, a program on the WXAG radio station committed to highlighting and discussing issues that are important to local Athens residents. Intern responsibilities will consist primarily of the following:
- Monitoring news outlets and curating content that is relevant to the program’s mission
- Seeking out new and emerging news outlets for addition to a media monitoring list
- Summarizing and analyzing curated content to better inform Rep. Frye
- Developing creative, original segments for inclusion on the program
- Assisting in preparing Rep. Frye for appearances on the program

Facebook Public Policy Externship
Location: Washington, D.C.
Duration: Full time; Summer 2016
Deadline to apply: January 31, 2016
Facebook is seeking highly organized, motivated, and detail‐oriented undergraduate and graduate students to join our Public Policy team in Washington, DC as full-time contracted externs. The Facebook DC office helps to inform users, the media, partners, employees and other stakeholders about Facebook's products and business. Working
with policymakers at the international, federal, and state levels, the team handles legislative and regulatory matters, participates in domestic and international policy discussions and leads the company’s interactions with consumer and other non-governmental organizations. Alongside Facebook team members responsible for public
policy and strategic communications, externs will work on a variety of projects and policy issues with relevance in the US and around the world, ranging from legislative monitoring and policy analysis to content development.
Note: This is a full-time, contract position for the Summer term.
Responsibilities
- Support Facebook's public policy and communications activities.
- Monitor and analyze legislation, regulation, and policies related to the company.
- Draft policy related materials including briefings and talking points.
- Research policy areas of interest to the company.
- Support outreach to Government, Congress, non‐profit organizations, and other entities.
- Research and develop policies and communication related to online safety, security, and privacy.
- Partner with senior team members on a wide range of projects.
- Assist in organizing events including trainings and educational outreach.
Requirements
- Pursuing a BA or graduate degree in business, law, political science, public policy, international relations, communications, journalism, or equivalent.
- Ability to commit up to 40 hours per week in our Washington D.C. office.
- Previous internship or professional experience in policy, research, communications, or government preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in politics, public policy, and technology.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to think, plan, and execute resourcefully.
- Experience in the Internet technology industry a plus.
- Passion for Facebook and online communication a must!

About Kate Templeton
Kate officially started saying "Go Dawgs" in December of 2014 when she began working in the UGA Career Center. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education. After working for several years as a public school teacher and an administrator and intern with a nonprofit, Kate returned to school and earned her Master of Science in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
As a Certified Federal Career Coach, Kate is dedicated to engaging students and the university community in the many opportunities available in the federal government. She is enjoying the opportunity to connect with employers and educate students in all majors on the merits of experiential education.
