Weekly Coaching Communication
Make it a great day -- every day!
12 -- 16 February 2018
Hats off to you!
Here's this past week's amazement:
- Thank you, all teachers and support staff, for your flexibility with the early out on Monday when some classes ran long to fit in the assessments they were taking.
- Thank you, Bio Club and Dr. Andersen, for a great Sunday afternoon of Science and bringing more good publicity to CPU High School.
- Thank you to the Blended Learning Team and Mrs. Larson for a great visit with me at Williamsburg -- your professionalism was well-noted, and your work upon our return definitely benefits our students.
- Thank you, Mr. Grennan, for driving the van to Williamsburg for the Blended Team.

Pope's Professional Learning -- Sharing to Build Capacity
Blended Learning and the 4 Cs
From the National Education Association's resource that was shared, this week, I'm going to discuss the component of collaboration:
IMPORTANCE:
Collaboration has been accepted as a skill for people working towards a common goal that's essential to achieve meaningful end effective results. The more global our world becomes the more necessary collaboration becomes. Author James Surowiecki offers that the "wisdom of the crowds" shows us that "'under the right circumstances, groups are remarkable intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people'" in the group. And, on a global stage, diversity brings multiple and cultural perspectives that creates knowledge beyond just the individual's benefit.
DEFINITION:
To collaborate effectively with others, students need to be able to
- demonstrate ability to work effectively and respectfully with others;
- exercise flexibility and willingness to be helpful;
- assume a shared responsibility for collaborative work; and
- value the individual contributions made by each member of the team.
RELATION TO OTHER SKILLS:
Communication and collaboration go hand-in-hand. Students need to be able to communicate their ideas effectively with a diverse group of people with whom they are working to accomplish a common goal. Social skills and communication skills are also closely related in that they show that the talk and the work are inseparable.
