G.A.T.E. Classes
Dear GATE Parents,
Mrs. Judge and I have enjoyed our time working with our GATE students during this first session of Enrichment classes. We have decided to end this first session of classes. Thursday, October 31 was our last morning class of the session.
During this time, students partnered together and collaborated on scripts for PBIS Expectations videos we will create. We are incredibly grateful for the parent volunteers that were able to come and support us during these morning sessions. In reflecting on our GATE class, we have decided that we are not able to accomplish the kind of work we want to with this current set up so we are altering the class format.
Moving forward, we will be offering this GATE class after school, in a similar format to the After School Enrichment classes. During this after school time period, we will continue the work on these videos focusing on the filming, editing, and finally showcasing of their final product.
We will be sending more detailed information in the next weeks regarding when the next session will take place.

Electronic Devices Policy- i-Phone Watches and Gizmos
As we begin the new school year, we would like to remind you of our District-wide policy with regard to electronic devices. We acknowledge that students have cell phones and some of our students have moved into wearing Smartwatches, Gizmos and VTech watches as well. Students are certainly able to wear these devices to and from school, but not while on campus during school hours. If said device is used as a tracking device for safety reasons before and after school for your child, please remind your students to put this device on at dismissal as a part of his/her routine.
In exclusion of purposes for supporting a student with an IEP in place, wearable electronic devices are not allowed during the school day as it mirrors the idea of a cell phone and can be a listening and/or recording device, which is not allowed. Education code section 51512 prohibits the use by any person, including a pupil, of any electronic listening device in any elementary or secondary school classroom. Our district handbook specifically states that we will regulate the use of such devices during the school day (pages 19-20).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
APEX Fundraiser Starts on November 18th
We are so excited to announce that our school will be participating in an Apex Leadership Co event this Fall as our major fundraiser! The Apex program will be with our students from November 18th-December 6th as we raise much needed funds to help our school. Please look in your child's folder and for e-mails that will be sent to you as the fun run gets nearer.
Apex is an interactive leadership program that helps schools all over the country raise money, while promoting leadership, good character and fitness. This year’s theme is Apex GAME ON! Students will join the Apex team on an exciting journey as they learn the habits needed to be a game changing leader.
During the Apex program, students are challenged to get pledges for the fitness moves they will complete on event day to help our school. Students will dance/workout for 30 minutes and will complete 30-36 fitness moves. The maximum number of moves is 36. Through Apex’s top-notch online pledging system, sponsors can pledge $1, $2, $5/move, or any other amount for students and can pledge from anywhere in the world!
Thank you again for your continued support of Meadows Elementary. We are excited to continue this journey with you!

This year, he is holding these sessions at school sites throughout the year. All parents from any school are encouraged to attend, even if the meeting is not at your home school. His goal is to continue to foster open lines of communication and build partnerships with families across the Newhall School District.
