Dear GTE Families:
The students and staff at Green Tree Elementary are diligently preparing for the upcoming MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) Assessment. Students in grades 3 through 6 will be taking MAP Grade-Level Assessments in order to evaluate your student’s progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. Grade-Level Assessments provide important information that contributes to decisions concerning individual students, groups of students, and educational programs. Assessments are given in the subject areas of Communication Arts (grades 3-8), Mathematics (grades 3-8), and Science (grades 5 and 8).
Please mark your calendars with the below MAP assessment dates and if at all possible make sure your child is present on the days they are scheduled to take the test.
6th Grade: May 10, and 11
5th Grade: May 3, 4, 5, and 6
4th Grade: May 10, 11, and 12
3rd Grade: May 2, 3, 4, and 5

APRIL ESSENTIAL
Essential 9--Learn from your mistakes, move on, and be positive
Be positive and enjoy life. Some things just aren’t worth getting upset over. Keep everything in perspective and focus on the good in your life.
Accept that you are going to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on
MAY ESSENTIAL
ESSENTIAL 10- BE THE BEST PERSON THAT YOU CAN BE
Throughout life, you are going to be lonely at times, you are going to have your heart broken on occasion, and you are going to feel as if something is missing in your life. No life is lived without some amount of pain and heartache. No matter how bad things get, however, make sure you are always developing into the kind of person you want to be, and the kind of person others want to be around. It is important not to let external factors keep you from developing who you are and the person you are trying to become. Always make sure there are 7 things in your life: laughter, family, adventure, good food, challenge, change, and the quest for knowledge.
WOW WEDNESDAYS
EVERY WEEK, ONE STUDENT FROM EACH CLASSROOM IS PICKED TO SPIN THE WOW WHEEL. THESE STUDENTS ARE CHOSEN FOR MODELING THE ESSENTIAL 10.

Laumeier Sculpture Park is Just A Short Drive with Plenty of Fun to Provide
If you’ve never been to Laumeier Sculpture Park, it is a magical place. Sculptures reach towards the sky, twist and turn, and are even spread throughout trails in the woods. Growing up in the St. Louis area, Laumeier Sculpture Park was one of my favorite places to visit as a child. The park is free to the public and even hosts outdoor events throughout the summer. The park is very close to the crossroads of Highway 270 and Highway 44 in the Sunset Hills area. If you’ve never had the opportunity to visit, I’d encourage you to visit the park. You can find more information on their website, https://www.laumeiersculpturepark.org/

RAPTOR VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times, so we are rolling out a system to allow us to do just that. Starting Jan. 24, 2022, WSD visitors will check in to our buildings using Raptor, a new visitor management system designed to assist with building security.
What does that mean for you?
When you arrive in a WSD building as a visitor, you will be asked to scan your ID, take a photo and complete the management system’s check-in process.
Raptor will screen the information against sex offender databases and locally customized lists of banned or potentially threatening individuals, instantly alert school officials to a threatening presence, and maintain a searchable log of all visitors.
Once approved, you will get a customized visitor badge to wear while in the building.
Thank you for your support as we roll this out and enhance school safety protocols!
Parents or guardians who are only picking up a child for the day will not need to use the visitor management system.
INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR WSD LIBRARY
Our school librarians want to partner with families just like our teachers! The library is an important part of a student's educational experience, and like our teachers, librarians are there to ensure that student needs are met.
One way our librarians can partner with families is in guiding the book selection for their students. Using our online book catalog (Destiny), a librarian can create internal notations (i.e. student is not to check out books about witchcraft or wizardry) which will help the librarian to effectively support the students in the selection of alternative books or resources. These notations in Destiny are created by the librarian after receiving a request from a parent or guardian. This option is available to any parent at any time for any WSD library resource.
