Newbery Bowl Winners
Heritage Student Council
On April 19th and 20th, Mr. Bronson and Mrs. Saucier drove eight HMS Student Council delegates to the 65th annual IAJHSC Convention that was held in Springfield, IL. On the way to the Convention, they visited local attractions. Upon arrival at Convention, delegates held caucus meetings within their Northeast Lake District, voted for our next District Representative, attended a formal dinner and dance with 748 other students, met with various motivational speakers, and networked in general sessions. HMS delegates worked very hard this year to earn Honor Council recognition from their participation in workshops, fundraising for the state service project, and promoting leadership skills in our learning communities. It was a great experience and we look forward to next year's Convention!
Math in Real Life
Wrapping up their unit on adding and subtracting decimals, Mrs. Hose’s 5th grade students were tasked with planning a birthday party for a friend, and creating a shopping list within a budget. Most students were surprised by the prices of items and found it challenging to stay under their $100 budget. Other students proved their thriftiness by finding sales and seeking out the best deals on party supplies.
