A Message from our Principal!
I hope this message finds you and your family well. April is Month of the Military Child and we are so grateful for our military families and their students. We appreciate your sacrafices and look forward to celebrating you this month!
On top of celebrating our military connected students, we will also have a school wide Career Day, Family STEAM Night, and our first Double Good Fundraiser. Be on the lookout for more details as these events get closer.
It's hard to believe it, but we are heading into the 4th, and final, quarter of the school year. Wow, where has the time gone! It's the final leg of the race leading up to the SOLs and we want to encourge our students to be in school daily as we continue to learn new content as well as review all the things learned so far. As always, we want students to stay home if they are sick (fever, vomiting, ect.), but encourage students to be in school if they're able. If your student does have to be out due to illness, don't forget to send in a note within fours days of returning.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Spring Break!
Respectfully yours in education,
Mrs. Canterbury, Principal

Attendance Matters
Regular school attendance is imperative to school success. In Virginia, all students aged five (5) through eighteen (18) are required to attend school regularly.
Research shows that regular school attendance leads to school achievement!
Please make sure that you communicate with your child’s teacher any time your child is absent. Absences can be excused for a documented illness or a death in the immediate family. Student absences can be logged in ParentVue. Please refer to the video below for more information on logging an absence in ParentVue. Illness is defined as fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. If you have questions about whether or not a student should come to school, or if you have a specific concern about your child’s health, please speak with our nurse for more guidance. We can only accept documentation within four (4) days of the student’s return to school, unless the documentation is from a medical professional (dentist, doctor, therapist, etc.)
According to the Virginia Department of Education, chronic absenteeism is defined as a student missing more than 10% of the school year (18 out of 180 days). This applies to excused and unexcused absences.
Thank you for partnering with us to make sure your child has the best opportunity to succeed.
Online Student Verification
At the beginning of every school year, all families must complete the student online verification process. The verification process allows our families to confirm or update information for all children in a household at one time. Families will also have the opportunity to review and update their contact information to ensure continued access to important information and communications from their student’s school and the district. Families must log on to their ParentVUE account to complete this process. In the ParentVue app, parents should select “Open Online Registration (OLR)” and select “2023-2024 Verification.”
To complete the process, please log on to your ParentVUE account. The verification process can be completed in a web browser or in the ParentVUE mobile app. It is important to note that the online verification process is open and available all year to provide families the opportunity to update their information to ensure that the most current contact information is provided.
Visit this page to learn more about ParentVUE in our district. If you have not activated your ParentVUE account or have lost access, please contact us at 757-494-7505.
