Updates & Reminders
- Fit for Bloomsday starts Tuesday March 19th. It will run from 3-4 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Flyers are going home this week to sign up!
It’s time to register as a presenter for the Spokane Public Schools 5th Grade Career Fair!
Please complete this Registration Form to let us know that you will be attending. Also, feel free to pass along to any family, friends, or colleagues who might be interested in attending as well.
Here is a brief overview and reminder of the event as well as future opportunities if you are interested. See last week's newsletter for more information on the event!
- Spokane Public Schools solicits feedback from staff, families and community partners to better understand community members' thoughts about the bond and levy: spokaneschools.org/feedback. This survey will be available through March 13.
- Thank you to Mr. Cloninger and all of our students who participated in Kids Heart! On behalf of the American Heart Association, we thank you very much for raising over $2,300 with our school's recent Kids Heart Challenge /American Heart Challenge program.
- Please only let your students in and out of the car on the curb side! We've had an increase in students getting out on the street side of the drop off lane. Visibility isn't great and it is unsafe for students and drivers.
- If you're ever struggling to get through to the office via phone lines, please remember you can email any of our wonderful office staff (Shelby McVay, Dewi Campbell, Carolina Johnson).
- Please remember to send your student with appropriate winter clothing, including gloves and/or hats. While it's been more mild during the day, it is still cold during morning line up!
- Want to volunteer? We're always looking for approved volunteers to run our end of week prize store for students have shown excellent DIGS behavior! If you're approved to volunteer, sign up here. If you haven't yet been approved, find more information here.
- Wondering when to keep your sick student home? Find information and recommendations at the district webpage here.
- Thank you for continuing to park in other spots in the lot rather than in our bus and Zum zones. We appreciate your attention to this!

STEAM Fair
Hello Scientist, Engineers and Creators! We want to share information about the STEAM Fair coming up on Tuesday, March 19th.
EVERYONE can participate, Kindergarten through 5th grade. There are so many fun questions you can answer or problems you can solve with your project.
Once you have an idea of what your project will be, you will need to sign up by Thursday, March 14th with the paper form from your teacher that went home to interested students yesterday or sign up online with the QR code or link in the form. If you need a form and one did not come home, get one from the office! After you have signed up to participate in the STEAM Fair, you can visit the main Office to get a poster board for your project.
Our judges come from Ferris High School! And they will pick 1 winner from each grade. If you are worried you won’t win, worry no more! Something new this year is that EVERY participant will be entered into a drawing for a $10 gift card to Dairy Queen. We will have 1 winner for every 20 students who complete their project, so the more who sign up the more winners we will have!
Egg Drop
The Egg Drop will be on March 19th during the school day (1:45 - 2:30 pm). Mr. Kelly is again running it this year. Students in grades 2-5 can choose to develop a design to test out at the Egg Drop. They need to get the completed form to Mr. Kelly ASAP! You can get more forms from him or in the office if needed.
Note - this year the egg drop will be filmed and shared with families so they can see it afterwards!
Counselor Corner
In our most recent counseling lessons, students have been learning about anger and using appropriate coping strategies. We have talked about how it is okay to be angry, but we don't want our anger to get so big that it "explodes" and can hurt others or make a problem bigger. Students shared what anger feels like in their bodies and gained tools to handle anger in a healthy and productive manner.
