April 7-13
All Students are Curious, Creative, and Confident Learners!
Dear Kendallvue Families,
We had a successful week of CMAS testing. I am very proud of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. They have worked so hard this year and it continued through the week. Thank you for getting your students to school on time. This week will be math for all three grades and science for 5th grade. We will be done with CMAS after this week!
As you may be aware, there will be a solar eclipse occurring on Monday between 11:30am and 1:30pm. While this astronomical event is an exciting opportunity for observation, it's crucial to prioritize safety when viewing the eclipse. This timeframe is mostly during our lunch/recess time and students will remain indoors. Some classrooms will be participating with indirect viewing methods for the eclipse.
Families, please reinforce safe viewing procedures with your students. Below are some important guidelines that you can share, which will also allow for you to have a safe and enjoyable experience at home:
Never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection. Staring at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause serious eye damage or even blindness. Use solar viewing glasses or handheld solar viewers that meet international safety standards (ISO 12312-2).
Do not use homemade or improvised filters for viewing the sun. Only use certified solar filters or eclipse glasses from reputable vendors.
Supervise children closely during the eclipse. Ensure they understand the importance of using proper eye protection and avoiding direct viewing of the sun.
If you are unable to obtain certified solar viewing glasses, consider indirect viewing methods such as pinhole projectors or solar eclipse glasses with solar filters.
Be mindful of pets and other animals during the eclipse. Just as with humans, animals' eyes can also be harmed by direct sunlight.
Stay informed about the timing and duration of the eclipse in our area. Plan your viewing activities accordingly and be prepared to move to a safe location if necessary.
By following these safety guidelines, we can all enjoy the wonder of the solar eclipse while prioritizing the well-being of ourselves and our community.
I will see you at the crosswalk!
Cheers,
Bruce Lindsey
