Criminal law
Criminal defense lawyers defend individuals and organizations that have been charged with a crime. Criminal lawyers handle a wide range of criminal cases from domestic violence, theft, drug crimes, embezzlement and fraud.
Practice environments
Most criminal lawyers work in private practice or in a solo firm also for the government. They work long, irregular hours they meet with their clients outside of the court house, prisons, hospitals and other venues.
Compensation
The most common salary is between $30,000-$50,000 range. Criminal lawyers employed in law firms generally earn the highest amount.
Education and Training
Obtain a law degree and past the bar examination in the state in which they intend to practice. Some criminal lawyers earn a board certification from the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification (NBLSC)
Sports law
This applies to both amateur and professional sports. Sports law often involves labor, antitrust, contract and tort law.Law students are often able to gain exposure to this world by working for a sports team or for the in-house legal department of a media company.
