Thesis statement/Theme analysis
thesis statement
In the novel "The raisin in the sun" shows/describes the attainability of the American dream when they talk about mama's plant, pride being shown, and when walter is sitting down and wont eat his eggs.
Theme analysis
-overall I think the theme of the play is that it describes strength an integrity but at the same time shows the heartache and the problems that go on in the novel as well. I think the overall theme is that because there's many instances in the book where it shows strength as it Said's in the text " damn my eggs- damn all the eggs that ever was! that describes unattainability of the American dream because he's a mean person. also as it states in the text " I'm a grown man, mama. MAMA ain't nobody said you wasn't grown but you still in my house and my presence. and as long as you are- you'll talk to your wife civil. now sit down". this quote is showing the attainability of American dream because its showing mama having courage and pride standing up for her self just like how the American way is identified.
characterization
- mama dream is for everyone to live happy and not have to worry about the struggles of life and for her family to live the best way possible.
quote- "Son -I just tried to find the nicest place for the least amount of money for my family" (2.1.178).
-Walter is a person that want money his dream is to open up a liquor store and become rich and have no worry's.
quote- "Do you know what this money means to me? do you know what this money means can do for us? Mama- mama - I want so many things" (1.2.220).
-beneatha is a person that wants to help people her dream is to become a doctor but even though she's a girl she still wants to push hard to become a doctor and help lots of people.
quote- "I wanted to cure. it used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. it used to matter I used to care".
conflict(man vs man)
conflict man vs man
- the following quote above when mama is arguing with her son Walter describes the conflict man vs man because mama and her son are fighting and there going against each other because when Walter states to mama im a grown man but mama reacts by telling him your in my house. and for that you follow my rules so both of them are going against each other in man vs man kind of conflict.
symbolism
mama plant- she feels it describes her as strength and she looks at in hope of one day having a little garden of her own and it connects to my thesis cause its shows the stenght one wants to have as the American dream.
