Weekly Newsletter - Week of 1/11/16
What's Happening This Week!
We made it through our first full week back! We are excited about our new units and learning. Have a great week!
Celebrity of the Week - Jimmy!
What are we Learning?
Reading - Students will continue to read fiction stories. This week we will focus on fantasy and folktale texts. We will also continue to examine character traits, problem/solution, and the beginning, middle, and end of stories.
Continue to work on AR reading! I'd like to see everyone reach their reading and comprehension goal this quarter!
Phonics/Spelling - Unit 8: Students will work with R Controlled sounds: -ar, -or.
Trick Words (Unit 8): world, answer, different
Writing - We have written our first opinion pieces about our favorite books. Students will continue to write about their favorite books paying attention to details from the texts to support their opinions, writing for a set audience, and using capital letters in their writing.
Math - Last week, we began adding double digits. This week we will continue working on that skill, but will also include addition with regrouping. We will send home extra homework this week as we work on this important concept.

Science- Last week we learned that matter is all around us, takes up space, and has mass. This week, we will study the 3 states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
