Murrow vs. V
by austin alvarez
The speech from v for vendetta and Murrows excerpt from the radio and television news directors association annual meeting have some striking resemblance about the comfort of people. The speech by v from v for vendetta is about how people are willing to give up their rights for comfort, stability and tranquility. In vs speech he states that the people had freedom to object think and speak but gave it up by allowing the government to censor and survey them. In Murrows speech he states that the he feels that it is his desire or duty to talk about how the media has reflected the attitude of people as being built from allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information. Murrows speech he is trying to say that the media is a reflection of people and that it need to show more about the statistic of the American policies just by taking away some time that people most likely don’t watch shows to illuminate them with information.
In vs speech he says “who’s to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty you need only look into a mirror.” V is stating that the people have let this happen because they are the ones that did nothing but watch as their comfort gave way to having freedom. In Murrows speech he says “we have built an allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information. Our mass media reflect this. But unless we get up off our fat surpluses and recognize that television in the main is being used to distract, delude, amuse and insulate us, then television and those how finance it, those who look at it, may see a totally different picture too late.” Murrow is saying that we as the people are the ones that have built this view of we don’t want to see anything unpleasant because it does not entertain us or gives us a feeling of discomfort and that when we do see what we have done it would have been too late to change it and that the it is our fault. In the same way they both have differing views on the topic as well. Murrow in his speech states that that those who say that his way of inlitening people by giving up the show time that people watch for stats and policy of the government because people wont watch it are to complacent, indifferent and insulated, and his repliye is “there is, in ”
