Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates September 23, 2018
We are hoping that this weekly message finds you and your family safe from the effects of Hurricane Florence. The staff at Swansboro High School is eager to hear from our students and families and we are looking forward to resuming the school year as quickly as possible. Students who have been displaced by Hurricane Florence are entitled to federal benefits under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act. This assistance includes the opportunity for your child to remain at his or her school, regardless of the location of your current housing. This includes families staying in hotels, shelters, campgrounds, living with family or friends, vehicles, or any other location. Transportation will be provided by the district from your current housing location to your child's original school, if desired. Additionally students qualify for immediate approval for free meals if meal assistance was not already provided. You also have the right to immediately enroll in the school determined by the address of your current living arrangement if you desire to do so, even if you do not have the documentation typically required for enrollment.
To apply for assistance through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act, please visit the Student Services Department at our district office at 200 Broadhurst Road, Jacksonville, NC 28540. The Student Services Department will be open beginning Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at 9:00am. If you are unable to visit the district office, please call 910-455-2211 and ask for the Student Services department. We would like to have any necessary services in place prior to students returning to school, so we urge you to contact Student Services at your earliest convenience.
We are also asking students/parents to complete our student check-in form to help us identify those who may need assistance. That link can be found at: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2oj0MM90xkqfNEBYMyDapI14msEKMxRElyua-wd6_F5UNUtRUlBLQ0dHS09QMTJTRlZBVkZJQkxXNy4u
Our leadership team is meeting this week to begin the process of rescheduling events that we have missed and those that will be quickly upon us when we return. Homecoming will be rescheduled for a date in late October or early November as well. We will notify students and parents as soon as new dates have been selected. We will host a strategic planning meeting at 4 pm and a Project Graduation parent meeting at 6 pm on Monday, October 1, 2018, whether or not school has resumed. If school has not resumed we will hold the meetings at a location off-site. We hope that you will attend and help us regroup as we ensure this is still a wonderful year for our students and families.
