Update for LPES Families
Thank you also to all of the first responders, front line medical staff and all essential workers for putting your safety on the line for all of us. We appreciate all you are doing every day!
The Fifth Grade End of Year Awards will take place on Tuesday, June 9 at 10:00 AM. Additional details will be going out to the families of fifth grade students in the near future.
Important Information for the Closing of School:
Student materials will be available for pick up on June 8 and 9 based on the following schedule:
Monday June 8:
Students with last names A-L 8AM-9:30 AM - materials pick up only
Meal Distribution will take place from 10-12, if you are coming for meals, you may also pick up materials at that time
Students with last names M-Z 1-4 PM
Tuesday June 9:
Pick Up for those unable to come on Monday 4-7 PM
Items to be returned by the school:
1. Student belongings from desks and cubbies. * We will do our best to collect everything from the classroom.
2. If yearbooks arrive on time they will be included in this process.
3. Fifth grade gifts from the PTA
4. Student art work ** We will do our best to return all projects to students.
5. Medication and supplies from the nursing office.
At this time you may also return items to the school. Items to be returned may include:
1. Instruments- It is only necessary to return instruments if your son or daughter is no longer going to play. You must call Zeswitz to cancel your rental agreements. If your son or daughter has a school owned instrument, they should keep them for the summer.
2. Library Books
3. Reading Olympics Books
4. Paper packets to be graded
5. Items for the teacher
In order to expedite the process, please post a sign in your car window with the name of your student(s) and their teacher(s).
Celebrate the Last Day of School with a Car Parade – Families are invited to drive through our parking lot on June 10th between 10:00 AM - 12:00PM to say goodbye to the teachers and staff. Staff members will form two lines, one on each side of the parking lot located in front of the school, so we can have a special farewell for our students while following social distancing guidelines. Parents are asked to drive slowly and ensure everyone stays in the car. We are contacting the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department to assist us with traffic flow for this fun occasion.
Third Trimester Grades:- The last week for graded assignments is May 26-29. Students may turn in make up work until June 5. The grades on the report card for the last trimester will be reflective of instruction and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, grades will be determined on a 3, 2, 1 point system aligned to a rubric that explains the grades in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students that have not turned in any graded assignments during the school closure will earn an incomplete. Encore grades will be calculated based upon assignments turned in for each encore class using a √, +, or I (for incomplete). Students that have not completed any Encore assignments will also receive an incomplete. If your son or daughter was receiving paper packets, please return those to school on June 8, 9 so they can receive the appropriate credit for completing the work. Please reach out to the specific teacher if you have any questions regarding student grades.
Report Cards will be emailed home on June 10.
I also want to thank all of our parents, grandparents, family members and all of the adults that have worked to support our students during the school closure. The staff and I continually look for Silver Linings and there have been too many to list here. I know it has been a challenge and I appreciate all you have done! I know that there are many questions about the fall and I do not have answers at this time. As guidance and recommendations are changing rapidly, Dr. Shirk and the district leaders are taking a very thoughtful approach to the next steps for Pottsgrove. Stay tuned as we head into the summer for more details as they become available.
