If you would like to help donate something for this party, please send any monetary donations to school by Oct. 25th. I will pass them along to our party planners.
English/Language Arts
Reading
- We are learning about different text features that author's use to give readers information. This includes headings, subheadings, fact boxes, side bars, graphics, etc. The students will practice finding them in different texts and learn about the purpose of each feature.
Writing
- For writer's workshop, we are working on making a great loop ending to our narratives pieces. The students have worked really hard making a great hook at the beginning of a story and this week they will see how it should connect to the ending. We will keep developing this concept and make our stories expand with extra details.
Grammar
- Our grammar focus for the next few weeks is verbs.
Spelling
- Look for our new word list coming home this week. The spelling pattern words will be science words.
Math
We are finishing up topic 5 this week. We are going to spend a few days reviewing the 2-step word problems, patterns for facts, and multiplication properties. Our test will be Thursday. On Friday, we will start topic 6. This topic will explore the remaining multiplication facts.
Fact Practice
- Keep up the great work with practicing rocket math every night. An extra two minute practice can really make a difference. Many students are almost ready for the multiplication rocket! I'm so proud of all the hard work!
Science
We are starting unit 5: Simple Machines. This unit is about engineering, the design process, and simple machines. This week is all about engineering and the design process. The students will learn steps in the design process and demonstrate these steps with their own engineering task.
Assessments this Week
Thursday: Topic 5 Math Test
Friday: Spelling Test
AR Points this Quarter
The students need 8 AR points this quarter. For many students, this means taking 2 quizzes a week. Encourage your child to read their AR books each night for at least 15 minutes for their reading log and their books should be done in no time!
