VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE RESPECTFUL'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Respectful'.
To be respectful we want our learners to greet people in a friendly manner, listen to others when they speak, share and take turns, work with others in work and play, keep our hands and feet to ourselves and say kind and encouraging things!
SCHOOL GOAL: 'BE PROUD' - POHO KERERU!
WHAT:
Getting satisfaction from doing your best in everything!
Being lucky enough to attend this awesome school!
WHY:
You don’t have to rely on extrinsic rewards – just the pride of doing your best!
You give more effort when you are proud of your work
Poho Kereru – pump out your chest and be proud of your efforts!
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You are a proud Vogeltowner and talk about the school like it is home!
You compliment others on doing their best!
You feel good inside when you give 100% to your work, friendships and life!
You speak and act positively when people ask about your learning!
You make others feel good when they are around you!
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been a busy week here at Vogeltown with lots of activities that are normally in Term 2 and Term 3, pushed into Term 4. We had the Taranaki team involved in Scooter skills, and our Huatoki and Paetoki teams involved in Rippa Rugby and Puanga. A big thanks to all our teachers for their support of our these 'extra' curricular activities for our learners.
This term our teams are doing some very engaging and motivating topics. You will begin to notice for our Taranaki team our learners discussing lots of science and technology related topics! This is part of our school's strategic plan to incorporate more science and tech in to our programmes.
You will notice with our Huatoki and Paetoki teams the kids discussing music - instruments, song, and dance! There are sounds coming from every room currently! Check out the cool posters from Room 8 further down the newsletter.
Please check out the dates on the school calendar. We have a lot of events coming up over the next 7 weeks. Some dates have had to be changed, so please update your calendars.
See the link here: http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/calendar/
Next week our Year 6 students who are going to Highlands Intermediate in 2021, will be going to the orientation day. There is a notice coming home today about this. Please note, that this day is organised by Highlands - you will need to organise your child to get to this event. It begins at 9:30am and will finish at about 10:30am.
Dates to look out for the next two weeks:
Thursday 5th November - Highlands Orientation (Yr 6 students) 9:30am
Wednesday 11 November - Whanau Tabloids 11:30am
Friday 13 November - Whole School Assembly 11:30am
Have a great weekend with your families, whanau. Be kind, be safe, be aware.
Aroha nui, Mr O
Covid Level 1 Information for Vogeltown School
At Vogeltown School:
There will be no more signage displayed around the school sites
Parents/caregivers are welcome on site. You do not need to ring before coming on school sites. Although we are still encouraging the morning ‘drop offs’ at the gates.
After 3pm parents/caregivers and kids are allowed on the school sites. Please be aware however that our staff are still working after 3pm to get programmes ready for the next day in their rooms - they need this time for preparation.
We will open the drinking fountains on both school sites. Learners can still bring drink bottles if they so wish.
We will still ask that if your child is sick to please keep them home. As you know staying at home if you’re sick is especially important at Alert Level 1. The risk of COVID-19 being spread in the community is much greater when there are no restrictions on gatherings or going out.
If your child has cold or flu symptoms you should call your doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice about getting tested. If recommended to get tested, you should do so.
For our Vogeltown community:
COVID-19 is contained at Alert Level 1, but it’s still worthwhile to keep a safe distance from people you don’t know while out and about. This will help to minimise the spread of COVID-19 if community transmission returns.
For air travel you are not required to wear a face covering, (if not travelling to, through or from Auckland), but you are encouraged to do so for your safety and the safety of those around you. Consider doing the same for all inter-regional travel.
Scan into places through the NZ COVID Tracer app or keep a good record of where you have been, to support speedy contact tracing.
We will still have our ‘contact tracing QR code’ posters up at our classroom doors and office doors.
There are no restrictions on numbers at gatherings. Schools, like workplaces, are not considered to be gatherings. Physical activities including cultural and sporting activities, practices and events can go ahead
There are no restrictions on domestic travel. People should avoid using mass transport if sick, awaiting a result from a COVID-19 test or required/recommended to self-isolate.

VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
A big thanks to Vogeltown Countdown who sponsored our drinks, bread and juicies - thank you so much to Raylee, manager of Vogeltown Countdown.
At our Home and School meeting in the first week, we were able to provide some money to the school to make some new signage around the school with new whanau flags, school value flags for the hall and new murals for the school which have a pictorial representation of our school - watch some spaces on both school sites!
Massive thanks to our community for supporting this fundraising team.
SPORTS NEWS
Term 1 Sports
It’s scary to think that in a few short weeks it will be time to think about registrations for Term 1 sport! Below is a list of options available and the cost associated with it.
Summer Soccer - Tuesday nights - $20
Touch Rugby - Wednesday afternoon in Bell Block - $25
Cricket - Friday nights - $15
One of the fantastic things about using our Kindo shop is that you are able to drip feed/top up your account as and when you can to get your account into credit. This is a great idea, especially for this time of year to be able to stash a bit of money away for when you need it. Registrations will be open from Week 6.
