3rd Grade's a HOOT!
February 1 - 5, 2016
3rd Grade Update
We had a blast celebrating the 100th day of school. I hope you heard all about it.
Since Valentine's Day will fall on a Sunday, we will be exchanging Valentine's on Thursday, February 11. Students are in the process of making a bag at school to hold their goodies. If they choose to participate and bring Valentine's to share, I do ask that they bring one for every child in the class. I will send home a list of names this week.
Just a note about First in Math, our new math coach, Mrs. Rewis, will begin announcing the Top Player for MGE, Top Team for MGE and the Top Team for each Grade Level. It would be awesome for our class to make this list!
Welcome Miss Delcher

First in Math - Our class has earned 24,195 stickers!
When we reach 50,000, we will have a small class celebration. We have to work as a team to get there!
Reading
We are currently reading aloud Peter Pan. We will be comparing the original with the one we are using for our novel study. This will help us to see how authors change stories to fit different audiences.
Current Skill Focus - Comparing and contrasting two texts, Venn diagrams, asking and answering questions, showing evidence from a text to support our answer
Writing - Opinion Writing - We will be working on stating our opinion about a topic and supporting our believe with specific evidence and examples.
Encourage your child to complete their independent reading each night.
Math
We are continuing to learn about quadrilaterals and angles. Our Chapter 6 Unit Assessment is planned for February 9. A study guide will be sent home this week for students to prepare. They may also want to use their math notebook to help study because we have put some important notes in there.
Students began a project called "Geocity" where we will use what we have learned and what we research to build our own city using different types of geometry. Students had the opportunity to work alone or with a partner. Ask your child how their project is going. Through this project, there are certain requirements that must be successfully accomplished before moving to the next part. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Timed multiplication test focus: 9-10s
Next week: 10-11s
We will have a test on 0-10 at the end of next week. This test will be graded. Keep practicing facts!
Other Notes
Don't forget to check and sign your child's agenda each night. Encourage them to write neatly so you can read what they should be doing. Every child should be able to communicate what they are doing in class.
Purple folders come home on Wednesday. Please make sure you are reviewing the papers and signing the folder each week. The folders are due back to school by Friday.
