Literacy Luau
Come join us at Cartmell Elementary on Monday, September 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. for a literacy luau! Come dressed in your Hawaiian best and ready to enjoy fun games, literacy and activities and yummy food! There will also be opportunities for parents to learn more about our new standards based grading, tour the building & you could even win a door prize! We hope to see you there.
Celebration
We made the CC Kids Newspaper! Our class was featured working on multiplication problems using the array model, groups and number bonds. Since we were featured in the paper, we also earned a pizza party! We will celebrate this week.
Below is the video I shared with students on 9/11
Behavior
Class Dojo is a tool used daily to track student behavior. If you haven't joined yet, check it out! You can see how your child is doing behaviorally and can also send me personal messages to ask about behavior or anything else that is on your mind.
In addition, weekly reports are sent home in Monday folders. Be sure to check them out each week to see how your child is doing.

RAINFOREST ASSEMBLY
Iguana
Check out this awesome rainforest animal. We learned it has a third eye that allows it to see overhead to protect itself from predators.
Parrot
Say hello to Skittles, a rescue parrot from out west. He can say "hello", wave and even say his own name!
Lizard
Here is another unique Rain Forest creature. Did you know its' split tongue allows it to smell in both directions!?
We Are Learning To...
Reading
In Reading this week we will begin our next unit of study where students will compare and contrast two texts written by the same author. First we will review story elements of a text and identifying them as we read. Then, we will look at text written by the same author to determine the similarities and differences of the text.
Math
In Math we will continue to study multiplication and division. This week students will be introduced to a new visual strategy: tape diagrams. This visual allows students to see what information the problem provides and what information is missing and will need to be found. The image (right) is an example of a tape diagram.
