Advanced Reading-3rd Grade
About Advanced Reading
Journeys and Destinations
The goals of the unit are:
-to develop analytical and interpretive skills in literature.
-to develop linguistic competency.
-to develop listening/oral communication skills.
-to understand the concept of change.
A variety of literature will provide the context for our exploration of change. In our group we will read and discuss short pieces of literature-poems, short stories, fables, and essays. As we read the literature, we will respond to it and think critically by analyzing ideas, vocabulary, and structure. Specifically, we will look for insight into the concept of change.
Today we began by brainstorming things that change. I challenged the students to think of some things that do not change. Some ideas I've heard from them already include history and numbers. This can be great car time or meal time discussion for families.
