Newborn Appearance
Newborns almost never look like they do on TV. Often times, rather than clean skin, a round head, and pink cheeks, babies usually have red-ish skin, and a white, greasy, cheese-like substance called vernix coating the skin. Their heads are more elongated and cone-shaped, because their skulls are not fully developed yet, and they are soft so that the baby can move through the birth canal more easily. The cone shape is a result of passing through the birth canal.
