End of the Year Information:
End of the Year Important Updates/Information: FINALLY....I HAVE NEWS TO SHARE! Please read this document carefully and let us know if you have questions.
End of Year Checklist - Please continue working on the things you can work on to help wrap up the year! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions/needs.
End of Year K-5 Progress Letters: Everyone should have received their grade level folder and their homeroom folder. Within your homeroom folder is a master copy of the English and Spanish progress letters. You will create a copy for each child from the master document. We ask that you create these documents and house all of your class’s completed feedback forms in the folder you are given. Make sure you name each document with the child’s first and last name.
As you complete your EOY Progress letters, please remember to follow the guidelines you established in your PLCs.
Dual Language Teachers should make copies of their own homeroom in their own folder. Then work in each other’s folders to add information to the Progress Letters.
Support teachers (ESL, EC, Reading, AIG, etc) should also be part of your conversations for their students.
These forms will need to be completed by June 9th.
North Chatham Grade Tracking Spreadsheet and Flow Chart: The district has sent a flowchart to help with determining who is proficient in reading and math when completing the district tracking document discussed in PLCs this week. We apologize that this flowchart is coming to you now, but it is very important to review and follow so schools in Chatham are consistent. Thank you to the several teachers who have already completed and submitted their District Tracking Document information to Mandy--but please be sure you followed the proficiency guidelines outlined in the district flowchart. The guidelines may require you to add or remove students from your document--so please revisit even if you have already sent it to Mandy. During PLCs next week, we will review the whole district spreadsheet together so that support staff, including Katilyn, can help add or clarify necessary data. If you have not yet completed the document, please follow these steps to create and complete your Google doc:
Please click this link and it will force you to make a copy
In the document title, please add your name
Read through the columns’ headings and think about your students.
You do NOT have to add every child’s name to this table. You will ONLY be adding a child’s name if any of the columns are relevant to that child.
If you read the columns and any of the answers are YES for a child, add the child. If you read all the columns and all of the answers are NO for a child, do not add the child to the document. Please be sure you followed the proficiency guidelines outlined in this district FLOWCHART when determining those proficiency columns.
If you need to add a child, write their first and last name in the “student’s name” section, and then mark the information in only the columns that are relevant to that child.
At the top of the table you will see a “Link to contact info document and digital tools students used during at home learning” Please compile a google doc with all your students contact information and how you have best been able to reach them. On that document, please also include the digital tools your class has been using during at home learning. This information will be very helpful to teachers next year if we need to start the year with at home learning!
Science Kits: Some teachers have already packed up their science kits and put them up by the main office--thank you! We know there are still several kits out in classrooms. Once we have received permission from the district to start packing up our classrooms, please make sure you have packed up your kits and put them by the front office by June 14th.
Updates/Reminders:
District Instructional Staff Survey - Your voice matters! - Please take a few minutes to take this survey before June 11th. When our campuses closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, we continued serving students through at-home learning. Please use the link below to access the survey and tell us about your experience with at-home learning. The survey closes June 11. The recently passed North Carolina Senate Bill 704 requires each school district in North Carolina to develop a remote-learning plan for the 2020-21 school year. Your feedback will help shape our plan and allow us to better support you with resources and training. We will share more information once the plan is finalized. Thank you for remaining present for our students during what are unprecedented times. You did it with creativity, dedication and flexibility, and we’re proud of what you accomplished: bit.ly/3cizf2N

Summer Learning for Elementary Students: The state is requiring districts to provide a Summer Learning experience for students this year, similar to summer reading camp. The target audience for Summer Learning will be students who are in Grades K-4. The focus for K-3 students will be literacy and 4th grade will have a focus on literacy and math. More information will be coming and will be shared and discussed in PLCs next week. Please do not share this information with parents until everything is finalized. Here is what we know now:
Students will be invited based on their MOY Istation data for Literacy and we will use STAR scores and Check-in data to determine students for math.
The district is currently planning for an at home learning experience for students, but they may receive different directions from the state.
Funding from the state will help to determine the length of the Summer Learning camp.
Schools will receive a spreadsheet soon with student MOY Istation data who meet the criteria for Summer Learning. We will review that data at PLCs next week to determine if Summer Learning is still appropriate for the students on the list. Please add this to your PLC agendas.
K-5 Letters: For students that are being recommended for Summer Camp we want to alert parents in the K-5 letters that we will mail at the end of the school year. There will be specific language for teachers to use in the K-5 Progress letters if a child is being invited to attend. This language will be shared at PLCs.
As soon as they have an approved date, we will let everyone know.
CCS Arts Day: As students throughout the county were not able to showcase their work in the usual end of year art shows, musicals, programs, and concerts, we are introducing our very first Chatham County Arts Day on June 5, 2020! The website CCSArtsDay.com has many activities, including theatre, dance, music and visual art. Students interested in participating should submit their photos and videos to any social media of their choosing with the hashtag #CCSArtsDay on (or before) June 5.
