AIR Testing Continues Next Week
7th and 8th grade students are to bring in a calculator ahead of time before May 6 in preparation for the Math portion of the AIR test. This will ensure all students have a calculator for the test.
Students may also bring earbuds if they choose to utilize the read-aloud option for the Science and/or Math portion of the test.
Procedures for Threats
Parents/families send their children to school each day, trusting that they are in good hands and kept safe while they are being educated. When there are talks of a threat made by a student(s), it can leave parents/families feeling uneasy and wanting answers.
Here are procedures we have in place here at SMS involving threats made.
We have a School Resource Officer, Mike Mendise, here daily from 7:45-3:15 looking out for the safety and well-being of our students.
We have a threat-assessment team in our building that reviews the facts and determines whether or not a threat has been made.
Administration works in collaboration with Strongsville Police to investigate all threats and alleged threats. When a threat is made, officers conduct welfare checks at students’ homes to determine if students have access to weapons.
School Administration determines consequences based on the findings of an investigation. These findings may result in out of school suspension. When students are suspended, they are not permitted on school property without authorized consent. The maximum discipline a principal can impose is 10 days out of school with a recommendation for an expulsion. Further discipline lies in the hands of the superintendent.
There are educational laws that prohibit schools from divulging/discussing consequences issued to students and/or their attendance at school.
Our goal is for students to feel safe within these walls. Only then can education take place. What I continue to stress to our students is that the first line of defense begins with them. I am proud of our students for speaking up when something doesn’t seem, look or sound right.
Please do not hesitate to give me a call if you have questions or would like to talk. 440.572.7085.

Levy Information
As you may know, Strongsville City Schools has a 5.9 mill, 5-year limited operating levy on the May 7th ballot - Issue 4. The passage of Issue 4 will provide our District with financial stability through the 2026-2027 school year.
Please remember to VOTE on Tuesday, May 7
Issue 4 will preserve many opportunities, allowing our students to grow and develop in learning environments that are competitive and challenging. These opportunities, both inside and outside of the classroom, will help prepare our students for future success.
Please visit www.strongnet.org/Issue4 for important information about this operating levy and the financial impact on our District.
