The Republic
Rome's Success (49 B.C.)
Carthage Defeated in the Third Punic War (149-146 B.C.)
The Romans found an abandoned Carthaginian ship washed up on the shore, and imitated the way it was built, to make an entire fleet of the ships. Once the war began, the Romans sailed out on the "fake" Carthaginian ships, and attacked the enemies catching them off guard. This was the first of three Roman victories. The Second Punic War began when Hannibal, a Carthaginian leader, led his army of soldiers and elephants through a wintry terrain to attack Rome. Many of his soldiers died, and they were defeated and conquered by Rome.
The Third and last Punic War marked the complete destruction of Carthage. Cato, a Roman senator, wanted Carthage destroyed and invaded in 146 B.C. Carthage was burned down, and Rome gained control of all of the Western Mediterranean and regions up to Asia Minor. The Punic Wars let Rome rise and become the strongest civilization of the time.

Julius Caesar- Our New Ruler (49 B.C.)
Caesar got his powerful position by slowing working up the ranks. He began working politically as the governor of Spain. He became part of the First Triumvirate, along with Crassus and Pompey. The First Triumvirate talked and bribed the Rome Senate to higher their ranks, and Julius became governor of three more regions: Gaul, Britain, and Germania.
Caesar built a powerful army of soldiers who were all extremely loyal to him. He was a strong leader, and expanded Rome as he prevented more civil war. Julius Caesar became very powerful and implemented several reforms while he ruled. He will probably continue to help Rome expand, but hopefully he won't turn out to be another harsh dictator.
Restaurant Review: Little Rome
Little Rome has many delicious foods, but they're most known for their Globuli, a sweet, fried curd cheese. Globuli is a popular Roman food, but Little Rome's Globuli is incomparable. Globuli is made by mixing curd cheese, loose dough, and semolina flour and forming small, round dumplings with it. These dumplings are then fried and dipped in honey.
Little Rome is one of the very few decent restaurants in town, so we hope it stays for around long time! This restaurant might even become the best one in the area!
Apollo: the Sun God
Apollo is the son of Jupiter, and has a twin sister, Diana. Apollo was also the god of music (he plays the lyre), truth, archery, healing, the arts, and others.
Should Caesar be Overthrown?
Caesar has finished his job, and needs to step down. After all, he created many reforms that all changed Rome for the better. His reforms included: expanding Roman citizenship to people outside of Rome to encourage the growth of the Roman Republic; increased the Senate to 900 people (from 500), thus decreasing the power of the Patricians; made landowners use free labor for a portion of their workforce in place of slaves; establish colonies in other countries to to get more land for the poor; and he established the Julian Calendar.
Despite his accomplishments, he'll sooner or later begin to abuse his power and turn into a harsh and cruel ruler of Rome. He needs lose all the power before that happens. Fortunately, the Senate is looking into ways to overthrow Caesar and take his power away. Unfortunately for Caesar, many are sided with the Senate, and things are starting to look bad for Caesar.
