Chaplain's Chatter: Thoughts, Reflections and Musings from the Catholic Chaplain
Happy Birthday Thomas Merton!
Greetings Everyone!
Next Saturday, January 31, would have been Thomas Merton's 100th birthday! Merton was a Trappist monk and one of the most published spirituality writers of the 20th century. See the poster below for the events taking place in the Library on Merton's actual birthday.
After Mass this Sunday, 1/25, we will celebrate Merton by enjoying birthday cake! Dr. Christine Bochen will host a discussion about Merton in the Center for Spirituality Community Room. Come and learn more about Merton’s life and works. We will even raffle a few Merton books!

“You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.” ~ Thomas Merton
Are You Free on Wednesdays at 12:30? Come to Mass!
Every Wednesday, we will celebrate Mass at 12:30PM in Linehan Chapel. Don't worry, you have the time! This Mass is shorter than a Sunday Mass, only about 25 minutes! What a wonderful way to find balance and spiritual nourishment in the middle of your busy week!
FREE CONCERT! Kim and Reggie Harris!

Open to the Public
The stirring husband-and-wife folk duo Kim & Reggie Harris combine their love of music and social vision into accomplished, heartfelt songs.”
– All Music Guide
Catholic musicians and storytellers, Kim and Reggie Harris combine a strong folk and gospel legacy with a solid background in classical, rock and pop music. Creative curiosity, years of road and stage experience and interactions with performers such as Pete Seeger, Ysaye Barnwell, Jay Leno, Tom Paxton, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Harry Belafonte and others, has led them to produce music that entertains and inspires.

Monthly Eucharistic Adoration and Compline
Monthly Eucharistic Adoration and Compline will take place on the following Thursdays this semester: January 29, Feburary 26, March 26 and April 23 from 9:00PM to 10:00PM Linehan Chapel.
Eucharistic Adoration is simply spending quiet time in the presence of Jesus. When Jesus was suffering His agony in the garden, He asked his apostles, “Could you not spend one hour with Me?” Jesus’ lamentation touches our hearts, and we respond, “We can.” Adoration is for anyone who wishes to come.
Compline is an evening prayer that settles the mind and heart and serves as a peaceful connection between one day or week and the next.
All are welcome! You do not have to be Catholic too participate and there are no special requirements. Any questions, please call Sr. Donna- 585-733-4422 or email her at ddelsanto@ssjrochester.org. Come again or for the first time!
Do you like to sing? Do you play an instrument? Our Church Choir is for you!

Spring Break Service Retreat 2015!
Clairvaux Service Retreat
You are invited to spend your spring break with fellow Naz students along with children and families who have been affected by homelessness. We will take the week to work with Deep Roots and the people they serve as we learn more about poverty and homelessness and the ways in which we can make a true difference. If you are looking for an opportunity to serve and to explore the intersection of spirituality and social justice, then we hope you will consider joining us in March!
"Deep Roots works with children and their families, who are disconnected through homelessness or other similar marginalization: connecting hearts. Our program will challenge children to envision a brighter future, to sustain healthy relationships and to navigate a course towards personal and social responsibility through better life experiences, with mentors, providing healthy life-models for all future relationships."
Contact Nadia Mullin at nmullin7@naz.edu for more information.
