Clyde Erwin Elementary School
Dr. Patterson's Weekly Update
Eagle Pride: Video by Dr. Patterson
February 2, 2019
We are celebrating another awesome week at Clyde Erwin! Our PBIS Celebration "Game Day" on Friday was a huge success. Students had a great time, and now we are beginning our work toward the next celebration. We are so proud of our students' hard work and positive behavior.
Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
Monday is the beginning of our Krispy Kreme fundraiser. Students will have the opportunity to sell Krispy Kreme certificates for $8.50. Each certificate may be cashed in for one dozen glazed doughnuts. By purchasing these certificates, you are saving over $1.00 per dozen doughnuts, and the certificates never expire. The top selling student in K-2 and the top selling student in 3-5 will receive $10.00! Thank you for supporting our school and participating in our Krispy Kreme fundraiser!
Assessments
The iReady math assessment window begins on Monday. All students in K-5 will be taking their iReady diagnostic assessment in sessions throughout the week. This assessment places students in the iReady math program based on their individual levels. It is very important for students to take their time and do their best so they are placed at the correct level in the program.
Students in grades 4-5 also have the NC Check-In reading assessment on Tuesday, February 5. This assessment measures students' mastery of reading standards and helps teachers plan instruction for the remainder of the school year.
Magnet School and DLI Open House
We have our Magnet School and DLI Open House scheduled for Thursday, February 7, 5:30-6:30pm. If you know anyone who is interested in applying for the magnet lottery for the 2019-2020 school year, this open house is a great opportunity to learn about everything our school has to offer. Also, this event is an open house for our dual-language immersion program. Our dual-language immersion teachers and students will share projects from their classrooms, and Participate will answer questions about the program. Parents will have the opportunity to tour our school and visit classrooms. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening!
Instructional Time
Our teachers begin instruction at 8:00am and teach until 2:50pm when we have afternoon announcements and prepare for dismissal. Breakfast is served 7:30-8:00am. If your student needs to eat breakfast, it is very important for him or her to be at school no later than 7:45am to have time to eat and be in class at the start of instruction. Teachers are not available for parent conferences 7:30-8:00am unless the conferences have been previously scheduled and arrangements for classroom coverage have been made. We are always thrilled to meet with parents and discuss student progress, but please schedule conferences so we can be prepared when you arrive. Thank you for helping us protect instructional time for our students.
Free and Reduced Lunch
Free breakfast and lunch for all students ended on Thursday, January 31. If you have not filled out the Free and Reduced Lunch application, please apply today. If your student will continue to pay for lunch, please make sure money is on his or her account.
