Stallion Scoop π΄
March 2024
Note from the Principal π
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Can you believe we're gearing up for the fourth quarter already? It's been an incredible journey, and I'm so proud of how far our students have come! As we dive into this last stretch of the school year, let's channel our inner teamwork and cooperation β our March Characteristic Trait β to finish strong together. Encourage your little ones to set goals, support their friends, and tackle challenges with a positive attitude. With teamwork, we'll make this fourth quarter the best one yet!
I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all who participated in our recent Heart Healthy Challenge. Thank you for being our Heart Champion on campus and for all your support! And letβs not forget that we surpassed our school goal and the kiddos who registered for our Heart Heathy Challenge got to turn me into a human cake, celebrating The American Heart Associationβs 100th Birthday.
As the weather begins to warm up, it's essential that we continue our commitment to being "heart healthy" and staying active.
As Spring rolls around, the weather gets warmer, and the sun sets later. Itβs the perfect time to build habits that lead to an active and healthy lifestyle! Here are four ideas on how to get your family moving this spring break:
- Take advantage of nice weather. Take a family walk or bike ride around your neighborhood. Research shows that getting outside can help your mental health, as well as your physical health.
- Play with pets. Throw a ball or stick for the dog to fetch in your yard.
- Get your garden on. Gardening is a fun way for families to get active outdoors.
- Head to the local park. Parks offer lots of ways to stay active and get moving β whether itβs on playground equipment, the basketball court or the soccer field.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in education. Together, let us continue to prioritize health and wellness, cooperate with one another, and finish the school year strong and on a positive note.
Wishing you a spring season filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of outdoor adventures!
Warm regards,
Principal Jessica Harris

In the Spotlight β¨
4th Grade Teacher: Ms. Zittlosen
Hi!
My name is Ms. Zittlosen and I am a 4th grade teacher at Steele Elementary. I graduated with my Bachelor's in Education from the University of Arizona and Master's in Instructional Technology. I have spent five of my eight years teaching at Steele Elementary! Teaching has brought me a lot of joy as I work with students to be the best learners they can be. Math is my favorite subject to teach!
In my free time, I like to spend time with family, friends, and my dog, Tucker. I also am a new aunt to a beautiful six-month-old niece! I enjoy spending time reading, writing, and dancing.
Mrs. Freed
Hello Spring and Steele families. My name is Emily Freed, I am Steele's Curriculum Service Provider and Testing Coordinator. I support all the teachers with their instruction and use of the TUSD and Steele curriculum. I am also responsible for the coordination and completion of all the TUSD and state testing. I earned my Bachelor's of Education from the U of A and have worked for TUSD for 18 years, 14 of those teaching 1stand 2nd grade. I am married to a middle school teacher, we have two daughters, Lily, a Sophomore and Hannah, a 7th grader. I love the beach, traveling and Disney. Like Ms. Munsey, I enjoy reading, but I would need to read 12 more books than her to get to my age. π
Ms. Munsey
Hello, wonderful families and fantastic students! I'm Ms. Munsey, your dedicated MTSS Facilitator, committed to fostering a supportive environment where every child can thrive. I have been in education for the last 10 years and earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and a Master's from Northern Arizona University, so I like to refer to myself as a Lumber Cat. Outside the world of education, I love watching spooky movies with my dad and sister, engaging in epic D&D quests and board games, cuddling with my kitties, and immersing myself in the captivating world of books. As an avid reader, I've set a challenge: I'll read as many books as my age this year. So, 21 books it is... plus another 10 π

π Celebrating National Reading Month π‘
As we celebrate National Reading Month this March, let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of cultivating a reading culture within our homes.
Whether it's a bedtime story, a cozy reading nook, or a trip to the local library, every moment spent reading with your child is an investment in their future. Encourage daily reading habits, set aside dedicated time for family reading sessions, and let your child see you enjoy reading too. Your enthusiasm for books will inspire and motivate them to embrace reading as a joyful part of their daily routine.
