Upcoming News for the Week of March 18th
Hello CMS Families,
On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19th and 20th all students will be taking their Science and Social Studies STAAR benchmark. Students will take their benchmark in the morning then have shortened classes the remainder of the day. The bell schedule is below.
Your child should know how they did on the reading benchmark, when we get back they will find out how they did on their math benchmark. By the end of the week, 8th graders will know how they did on the Science and Social Studies benchmark.
We still have a great deal of time for students to prepare for their test. The information they are learning is the material they need to be ready and successful for next year. It is important they stay after school for academic coaching so they can learn any material they may have not successful in.
We want to encourage all students to stay for academic coaching when they need help to master the content in their classes. The library is also open for our students to go study or utilize technology. We begin our last grading period Monday. Report cards should go out by the end of this week. If your child did not pass any classes, please have them stay after school
We have our Chapa 5K this coming Saturday. It's always a great event to enjoy with the family so we hope to see you.
We are here to help and support your child. If you need anything, please reach out. We would love to see you on campus. Please come up and join your child anytime for lunch or a classroom visit!

Dacy Lane Cross Walk Information
We are so glad the county made Dacy Lane bigger to help with traffic flow. However along with the five lanes, we have encountered some safety concerns crossing Dacy Lane. First, our Chief of Safety has communicated with Hays County regarding the lack of sidewalks for our students to safely access the cross walk. Until this issue gets resolved, we will be stationed for the students to safely walk across with a crossing guard at the following times (see the picture below):
- 7:35 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
- 3:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- 5:05 p.m. - 5:10 p.m. (for those that stay for academic coaching)
Upcoming March/April Events - Family Recipe for Success 2023-2024

We thank you in advance for helping our community and showing our students a variety of ways our school can give back to our community.

Bell Schedule
Important Information for the 23-24 School Year
Below is some important information to review for the upcoming school year.
IDs - Students have received their IDs and they are required to wear them every day. If they do not have their ID when they get to school, they will purchase an ID for $5 and will have a week to pay it off.
Students will also receive progress consequences for having their ID and not wearing it. Many students put them on but then place them in their pockets because they do not want to wear them. We will be assigning consequences to students who consistently do this. IDs are worn for safety reasons.
Academic Coaching - Teachers will begin staying after school beginning September 5th for students who need academic coaching. The library will also be open Monday - Thursday until 5 p.m. Students who stay after school for academic coaching or clubs will receive a free snack. Please see the schedule below.
Late Bus - The late bus will be available Monday - Thursday. It will depart CMS at 5:05 p.m. Please stay tuned for drop-off locations. They are the same as last year.
Athletic Games - Students get into games for free but students must wear their IDs. Students must get picked up within 15 minutes of the game being over or they will not be allowed to attend the next game.
Hays CISD Campuses Closed to Meal Delivery Services - As part of enhanced safety at campuses, all Hays CISD campuses do not accept deliveries from meal delivery services or restaurants for student lunches. Parents may still bring outside food for their children if they plan to deliver the meals directly to their children during the child’s designated lunch period. All guests are required to follow existing safety protocols and check in with an ID at the front office. We will make sure that you know when your child’s lunch is so that if you do come to campus, you come during lunchtime.
Hays CISD Middle School Campus Cell Phone & Earbud Rules - This procedure is intended to support student learning while minimizing student distractions and disruptions. The procedure will also support and enhance current safety procedures and protocols. Teachers are expected to incorporate technology as a part of their lesson plans as long as it supports the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Students may use their own technology (laptops or iPad) to support the learning objectives in the classroom. During an emergency, students will, of course, be able to use their cell phones
Student use guidelines during the school day (7:40 AM-3:45 PM)
Students may use their personal electronics on campus before 7:40 AM and after 3:45 PM.
Cell phones must be out of sight and on airplane mode in the classroom.
Students will not have their cell phones out during class or passing periods.
Cell Phone use is prohibited in bathrooms, locker rooms, changing areas, or any area considered private, and while riding on a bus.
Cell phone use is prohibited while at lunch.
Violation of electronics procedure - Students who violate the procedure will have the following consequences.
August 15th - September 4th - Warnings are given to all students.
1st Offense – Confiscation of the device and returned to the student at the end of the day
2nd Offense – Confiscation of the device and returned to the student at the end of the day
3rd Offense – Confiscation of the device, may charge a $10 fee and returned to the student at the end of the day
Multiple Offenses – Confiscation of the device, may charge a $10 fee, returned to the student at the end of the day, and disciplinary consequences such as evening ISS.
Students who fail to surrender devices will elevate consequences immediately.
Parent expectations - Parents can help their child support this policy, the learning environment, and our school’s mission by:
Discussing the school expectations with your child
