From Your Captain

Remember that the campus and district expectation is that you are speaking to all adults and students with respect. We are adults and professionals and should always act in accordance. You would not want an adult to yell at you, so please make sure you extend the same courtesy to students and staff.
It's is critically important that all adults are actively monitoring during lunch, recess, and dismissal. These are the times of day when we are having the most behavior incidents. If you are late or ill, please let me know ASAP so we can make sure your duty position is covered. Calling Ms. Bonnie does not count as letting me know.
STAAR Testing Resources
If you did NOT receive STAAR security training, please see Mrs. Logan immediately.
If you are a NEW teacher or just want to freshen up on STAAR security procedures, here is the link to the training website: https://www.texasassessment.com/administrators/training/
New teachers will need to complete Modules 1-3 and print their certificate for each module; turn them in to Mrs. Logan.
Conscious Discipline
Kuddos to PreK classes for great morning meetings!
The 3 C's
Remember the 3 C's for student success: connected, capable, and confident. Part of building a CAPABLE student is helping them learn from mistakes. When you give a test back to students, some of them don't have the skill or know how to look at their wrong answers and learn from mistakes. "Fixer Upper" a fun strategy from Lead4Ward can help teach that skill while building students' capability. Below are the directions for this strategy and then template. You can also find the directions and more great strategies here: http://lead4ward.com/docs/instructional_strategies/playlist2017_2018jan2018.pdf
March Makerspace
PK-2 students will use random objects to create a robot. They will draw a picture of their robot and label the 2D and 3D shapes found on their robot.
Students in gr 3-5 will also create a robot. They will then use grid paper and a ruler to draw a picture of their robot and calculate the perimeter and volume of their robot.
Email Mrs. Helton if you would like to check out the Makerspace Cart this month! If you have already done the March cart, feel free to email Mrs. Helton to discuss a different challenge for April for your class.
Family Art Festival
Specials teachers and 1st and 2nd grade teachers will be sponsoring different arts activities throughout the evening, and we will even have a "Sandwich Art" snack station and cookie decorating. :)
While the focus of this event is grades 1-2, all students are encouraged to attend to show off their art work and engage in the different art activities that we will have around the school.
