Here's What's on Top at Buena Vista - October 5, 2022
Note from the Principal
Good Evening Buena Vista Parents,
Thank you so much for supporting WCEF's Read-a-Thon fundraiser. Buena Vista raised over $25,000 for WCEF! That is amazing. I truly appreciate how you all support our school and our programs. See the Bulldog Dance Party pictures (below) that the students earned when they made their first $10,000 goal.
October Highlights:
Please join me for Coffee with the Principal at 9am on Wednesday, October 19th. I will be sharing some of the work that our School Site Council is doing including sharing our school site goals and our CAASPP data from last spring.
Red Ribbon Week is October 24th-28th--Our 2022 Theme is "Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free." Our student leadership group is planning some fun spirt days along with teacher and PTA support.
Our Halloween Parade is Friday, October 28th at 8:30 am on the track around our school field. PTA will have coffee and donuts for parents.
If you have a TK or Kindergarten student that day their schedule will be 8:10-12:55. The whole class will be early start on that Friday, please plan ahead.
If you are already thinking about costumes here are the guidelines to follow:
Halloween Costumes
- No masks that cover one’s entire face. We must be able to identity students
- Face paint is acceptable as long is it not gory (ie no blood)
- No weapons, even fake weapons made of plastic, foam, etc.
- Inflatable costumes are okay for the parade only
- Students must be able to remove their inflatable costume for class time
- Costumes must not reference weapons, drugs, or alcohol.
For those students that chose not to celebrate Halloween for religious or personal reasons, they will have the option to participate in alternate activities in the Paw Patch or Library.
It is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Respectfully,
Angela Gramlick

Fundraising and Read-a-thon Update
HUGE thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s WCEF Read-a-thon! Together we raised over $130,000 to benefit our students’ art, music, science lab, additional elective classes, salary support for the WCSD librarian, and much more for this school year! WOW!
Since July 1, your donations have totaled over $620,996, or 44% of our $1.4 million goal. Thank you to each and every WCEF supporter!
If you’ve donated, remember that your gift is tax deductible. And please check to see if your employer matches. If you haven’t yet donated, you can give today. Every donation matters and makes a difference.
Save the Date for our Fall Recycling Event!
On Saturday, October 15, swing by the WCSD parking lot from 10am-4pm to recycle your e-waste and get old documents (securely!) shredded. You’ll be supporting our schools while cleaning up around your home! Recycling fees are based on size and shredding is $10 per banker’s box. A percentage of fees collected come back to WCEF.
October is National Pizza Month! Celebrate with Extreme Pizza
Mark your calendar (October 11-13) for the always popular Extreme Pizza Dine-Out. You’ll be supporting thousands of Walnut Creek public school students as well as a fantastic local business. Call ahead or order online in advance to schedule your pick-up—genius! Mention coupon code WCEF22 or add it to the Coupon Code for online orders.
*Orders placed through 3rd party apps such as Doordash, GrubHub or UberEats do not qualify for giveback.
