Tashua School Weekly Updates
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
May 7, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
Wasn't that Tashua Silent Auction exciting? I was extremely impressed with all the items that were posted and my family and I had so much fun watching the bids come in over the course of 32 hours. Thank you goes out to Mrs. Stein and Mrs. Petiprin for organizing and launching this event. Also, thank you to all of you who supported the silent auction to make it successful!
Monday kicked off an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week! Each day, we felt extremely spoiled as we were celebrated with a fun theme each day! The overall theme for the week was, "It is PLANE to see we have the best teachers!" The staff lounge was set up as a festive sky club room. On Monday, we enjoyed inflight beverages (non-alcoholic of course :) in new personalize tumblers. On Tuesday, we were served yummy in-flight snacks. On Wednesday, staff members were asked to "claim their luggage" which consisted of nice gifts for the staff. On Thursday, we were spoiled with a delicious luncheon. On Friday, we will be treated to an outstanding breakfast! A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. DelRossi, the entire Teacher Appreciation Committee, and to all of you who offered to volunteer or make contributions to make this a special week for our Tashua staff! WE appreciate you!
This week, we also celebrated Child's Mental Health Awareness week. On Monday, we had a school-wide homework assignment of everyone thinking of their very own happy place. To kick off our day on Tuesday, we spent some mindful moments of visualizing our happy places and going there for a solid two minutes! This was a calming way for all of us to start our day! Did you know, research shows the more you are able to take time to do this, the more positive you will feel and the more successful your outcomes will be? Further, in celebration of Children's Mental Health Awareness Week, Mrs. McKenna shared a Social Emotional Learning slideshow with classroom teachers containing many great Read Alouds and Activities. She also shared some of the books in our library such as "I Am Peace" and "Try a Little Kindness." Please visit the link below if you would like to have your child access the slideshow from home: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/19-r2dY_SRrx4iL75mWyWIlXULLy3c4H6dPCzGPGclJY/edit?usp=sharing
On Monday, we also kicked off our One Book, One School event! We hope you are enjoying the book Appleblossom the Possum at home with your family. Each day, we have organized nightly readings for the students and trivia questions on the morning announcements the following day about the reading. The classes are eager to submit their response to Mrs. McKenna each morning. Remember, if you want your child to listen to a staff member reading the chapters, you can access these on our school website.
Further, as a reminder, we will be continuing with the administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessments to students in grades 3-5. The students have been doing a great job! They have been extremely focused and putting forth their best effort! They should all be extremely proud of themselves. Our remaining testing schedule is posted below:
SBAC Testing Schedule
Grades 3 - 5
Mathematics
Tuesday 5/11 & Wednesday 5/12
Mathematics Performance Task
Thursday 5/13
Science Testing - Grades 5
NGSS - Science Field Test
Tuesday 5/18 & Wednesday 5/19
Again, we hope students will not be absent during the testing period, except for illness, and that they continue to strive to do their very best! These SBAC assessments are administered to measure the academic growth of individual students from year to year and results are used to develop targeted instructional plans for students.
Please continue to :
- Have your child arrive to school on time.
- Provide your child with a nutritious breakfast.
- Help your child to be prepared for school each day with a fully charged Chromebook and functioning earphones.
- Set a healthy routine to ensure your child gets plenty of sleep.
- Let your child know that you expect him or her to try their very best!
If you would like to learn more about the Smarter Balanced assessments, you can log onto: www.smarterbalanced.org.
Lastly, Tashua students have done an amazing job this school year by showing the Tiger Traits (tolerance, integrity, generosity, empathy, responsibility and self-control) and earning stripes for Thunder. We’ve now earned enough stripes that it’s time for a school wide celebration! For this celebration students will be decorating t shirts for Field Day. We will be tie dying our t shirts with permanent markers. Tashua will provide the materials for decorating the t shirt but we ask that your child provide the t shirt. Please send in a plain white t-shirt with your child’s name written on the inside of it by Friday, May 14.
It is hard to believe we only have 6 weeks left of school, just 30 days! Let's continue to work together to support our students to help them to get the most out of each and every day!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, suggestions or good news to share.
Happy Mother's Day to all of our Tashua Moms!!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Neumeyer
Principal
