FAFSA
Completing the FAFSA/ORSAA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-25 school year has launched. The FAFSA is the key to unlocking need-based grants, work-study, federal student loans, and even some institutional aid and scholarships. At this time the form is still in the 'soft-launch" phase while the current issues with the form are being addressed. We hope to be able to offer a FAFSA/Financial Aid night later this month once the form is cleared of some of the large issues.
It has been announced that, although the form is active, financial aid reports will not be generated and/or shared with colleges and universities until late January/ early February. While this delay is stressful, it is happening to all students applying for federal financial aid. At this time, a few steps can be taken.
Helpful FAFSA Checklist for students:
1. Identify who will be contributors* on the student's FAFSA form.
2. Create studentaid.gov accounts. Students and all contributors will need individual accounts (verification of these accounts can take 3-5 days).
3. Gather information needed to complete the FAFSA.
4. Complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA Form by each college deadline. We encourage submission as soon as possible after the FAFSA is available.
*A “contributor” is a new term on the FAFSA and refers to anyone asked to provide information on the student’s FAFSA form. For example, it could be the student, biological parent(s), step-parent, or adopted parent(s).
Financial Aid Resource Lab
Portland State University- Four Years Free
Portland State is making Oregon’s most affordable research university even more affordable by giving four years of free tuition to eligible Oregon students. The Four Years Free program is just one way PSU helps you graduate on time with as little debt as possible. It’s like getting a full scholarship but without a separate application. All applicants are automatically considered for Four Years Free, no separate application is required.
Four Years Free is an institutional aid program that covers standard tuition and mandatory fees for eligible Oregon high school graduates who enroll full-time. The program covers remaining standard tuition and mandatory fees after financial aid is applied. Initial awards are calculated at 15 credit hours per term and the amount is finalized at the end of the second week of the term when registration closes.

- Oregon high school graduate
- Pell Grant-eligible according to FAFSA
- First-time PSU student
