Lopat's Lowdown
Office of the Principal - Faculty Newsletter August 16th
So I knew it was going to be an eventful week when I was asked Monday at 8am to go to the preschool entrance because of a snake issue. Thankfully one of our brave staff members, Coty Callahan, beat me to hero duties and captured the baby rattlesnake in a cup. Later in the day during recess, another phobia was revisited by a second grader. The student came up to me and asked if I wanted to see something cool, she opened her mouth and wiggled her loose tooth. That is the my #1 for chills up the spine and being completely grossed out. I informed her of that and within 30 seconds she ran back up to me with blood pouring out of her mouth and her tooth in her hand. Of course, I nearly fainted.
- Please make sure you count your students before heading in from recess.
- Also, just a reminder, we cannot keep kids inside from recess to finish work. It is actually against the law. State law in Arizona prohibits it.
- Please make sure you have set up your signature in Gmail. All employees should identify their first and last name, campus, position title, and if applicable your phone extension. You can do this by finding the signature options in “settings".
- Please turn off your projectors when you are not going to use it. If you turn the projector off when not in use, the bulbs should last roughly 3 years. They cost roughly $100 each. Please don’t leave them on all day long. The same goes for the document cameras.
- Everyone should have received the first of many SafeSchools videos. Please be sure to watch them. It is possible to have the videos run and still do other work on the computer. I do not need a copy of your completion certificate. I print one for my own records, you might want to print the certificate for your own records as well. You do not need to turn in a copy.
- All faculty- Remember if there is a lockdown during recess to move students out of plain sight.
- Christine and I have successfully completed our grade level Canyon Rim Rules & Expectations. Special areas teachers- thank you for being flexible!
- Here is the presentation- https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1yCe0xME-gd70-pRwYxl_nDbtXQX2gRs68eG74Uk-7LM/edit?usp=sharing
A very special thank you to our special areas teachers for helping with lunch time supervision when Traci is out and as needed. Have a great weekend!

Fire Drill Update From Christine
Awesome job following the new procedures for fire drills! Two things:
Have 1 student in the front of the line hold the green/red card so it is easy for administration to identify if there are any students missing. Secondly, special area teachers need to make sure they have a print out of all class rosters. Best practice is to be taking attendance with each class. It is the special area teachers responsibility to take attendance of that class. Homeroom teachers may not be able to meet their class out back if they are up front making copies during Special times.
