June Update for Board of Directors
Here and Now
- FIMMS Software: We've loaded into the new system donor profiles, vendors, and funds. Next stop is more complicated as we add in our Chart of Accounts. That grouping maps out so much in the system connecting all elements (grants, capital gains and losses, donor gifts, etc) together. If the force is with us, we'll have that up by the end of this week, and will shift into getting our 1/1/17 starting balances loaded.
- Upon invitation, Amy submitted a request to the PATH Foundation with hopes of a small grant to offset costs for her to attend an annual conference for growing community foundations. We've also been invited to submit an renewed application to the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation with the potential to increase our request to add to staff. Amy is mapping that out, but at this point, is looking at adding a communications manager.
- Speaking of staff, Amy met with Paul Siker to review ED Succession Planning. He also provided some great feedback on what that added position might look like. (Thanks Paul!)
- The Faces campaign is churning out Leadership videos and new stories. I hope you're staying tuned to the Faces Facebook page!
- Things are in full swing for the Loudoun Impact Fund, the giving circle that we partner with the Community Foundation NOVA. I've suggested to them that if endowment is to be created, that be split 50/50 between organizations. Their Executive Committee will review that idea in July. If the response is positive, that will more equally define the partnership for the program.
- Along with Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, we've been nominated for an award for our work that manifested the Faces campaign. Kirsten Langhorne will join Katy Moore of WRAG at that June 14th program.
Coming Up
- We are offering a follow up workshop for nonprofits that participated in Give Choose to help them maintain connections to those new donors, this Thursday the 16th. Theresa has cut checks to those organizations to be handed out that day! She continues to tweak the GiveChoose page to make it ready for peer-to-peer fundraising events for any charity registered.
- The Board of Supervisors will be voting on the allocation of Nonprofit Grants on June 22nd. All groups are on pins and needles, as the application process has changed substantively.
- For preparation for our 2018 budget, Amy is in discussions with a local researcher to get costs for replication of the "How America Gives" study published by the Chronicle on Philanthropy. It appears the Chronicle will not be renewing that study annually as touted. Discussions also include some meta analysis of needs and issues in Loudoun County that we might publish as a potential follow up to the County's Community Needs Assessment due in October as part of Year Two of the Faces campaign. I'll ask the Board to help flesh this out thoroughly at the September meeting.
- AND, End of Year Board meeting Dates have been tagged. Please mark your calendars with the following dates for an 8:30 AM meeting September 21, October 12 and December 7th.
