A Message from Principal Bame
Dear Laurel Park Families,
Last week we celebrated our track 1, fifth grade students as they finished their last day of elementary school. In just a few more weeks we will celebrate our track 2, 3, and 4 fifth grade students, sending them off to middle school in a little over a month. This has been a special experience for me, in particular. I have been fortunate enough to be the principal at Laurel Park since this class of fifth graders were in kindergarten - wow!
As all our students transition to the new school year, we want to continue to encourage reading for fun, reading to learn, and having conversations about our reading. Below are some resources that will be helpful even when your child is not at school.
- myON is an online resource with reading materials for students in grades K-3. It can be accessed through the WCPSS portal by following these steps.
- Letterland Phonics Online will continue to provide opportunities for K-2 students to practice foundational reading skills. Access it by clicking on the Letterland icon on the WCPSS portal.
- Reading Text Guides allow students in grades 2-5 to engage in the "Read, Think, Talk, Write" framework at home.
- There is lots of information, digital books, resources, and activities for PreK- grade 5 students at the NC Department of Public Instruction Literacy At Home site.
- A special thank you to Sherry Bourne, Instructional Facilitator/ Literacy Coach, for putting these resources together!
Please make sure you are receiving school text messages and emails. We send updates for inclement weather procedures, reminders about special events, and more. To learn more about opting into school communications, please visit: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/36463
Kind regards,
Principal Raleigh Bame
