Principals Corner: Tye Dye Socks and State Testing!
Good morning Hawks families,
April is a month in schools of important state testing, and for CPHS that means our 10th and 11th graders embark on SBAC and WCAS exams. Our sophomores will be tested in ELA and Math this month, while our juniors will be tested in Science. These state assessments help give us an accurate picture of student learning progress, so we encourage our students to take them seriously, prepare, and to try their best. If you have any specific questions about state testing please reach out to your students English or Math teacher directly.
In this edition of the Hawks Happenings newsletter, we share information with you all about upcoming May 9th Resource Fair at Valle Lindo, an instructional shout out to our Graphic Arts program, Drivers Education registration for next year, Five Star Hawks recipients, information for the Class of 2024, and more.
Lastly, a big shout out to Life Skills teacher, Michael Anderson, for helping us kick-off disabilities awareness month. Recently, we celebrated Down Syndrome Awareness day by participating in a Tye Dye Sock activity lead by our amazing Life Skills students. Thank you Mr. Anderson and our entire team who helped us Tye Dye hundreds of socks for our staff and students to wear around campus.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at 509-522-3312.
Thank you and Go Hawks!

Instructional Shout-Out: Matt Raikes & Graphic Arts
This month's instructional shout-out goes to our fabulous Graphics Arts, Studio Entrepreneurship and Capstone teacher, Matt Raikes.
Recently, Mr. Raikes invited our TTK pre-school students at Davis Elementary to come up for a visit to our Graphic Arts course. The preschoolers came with ideas of pillows they would like to create, and then our Graphic Arts students worked with them to design these ideas using our digital tools. We were then able to screen print these designs so that the kids could turn their pillow designs into reality!
This is such a great community endeavor and the engagement from our high school Graphic Arts students in listening to and taking care of the designs from the preschoolers was heartwarming to see and hear.
Way to go Mr. Raikes and keep on doing amazing things in our Graphic Arts program!
