In Case You Missed It:
A huge thank you goes out to Nurse Kearns for organizing a successful Health-a-rama. Our parent and community volunteers were extremely complimentary of student behavior and how smoothly everything ran. I attribute this to the up front planning by Lori, Allison Hickman, and the elective department. I also appreciate Denise Green for keeping things moving in the media center. Our PTSO provided lunch for everyone who worked each day from Bubbas and Chick-fil-a. It is wonderful to have a staff that will step up, lead, and carry out extra duties as needed to ensure we do what is necessary for our children. Lori will begin rescreens, seeing those students that were absent, and notifying parents and teachers if a student failed any portion of the vision or hearing. Core teachers may always check the pink card in the cum folder and follow up with Nurse Kearns if you are questioning a students ability to hear or see in the classroom.
Don't forget our PTSO has named November "Love Our School" month and asks for volunteers to visit the PTO Thrift Shop and volunteer. We must have 150 hours by the end of the school year to receive any monetary compensation. At the end of October we had 26 hours. West Lee had over 90 hours and East Lee had almost 80 hours :/. Individual students will receive a sweet treat if someone puts their name down on the volunteer log. The grade levels that volunteers the most will have a coffee bar. Clubs that have over 15 hours noted in the volunteer book will receive a pizza party.
SLMS Leadership met on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Make sure each grade level and department discusses the minutes and gives input on the questions I posed concerning scheduling for next year, best ways to provide intervention, and budget requests.
17.5 school days until Winter Break...Remember to make EVERY second count because our kids deserve it!
