Alabama Library Media Update
October 2019
A Quick Note...
I missed seeing many of you at Library Expo this year, but was very happy to see a new crowd at the Decatur location. It was nice to see familiar faces and meet many new library media specialists. Congratulations to all the recipients of the Herman Moore LAMP Award; there are so many deserving library media specialists - definitely apply/nominate someone for these awards.

One-Time Library Enhancement Allocation Funds
American Association of School Librarians - AASL Conference in November 2019
Thank you for your continued hard work and advocacy to promote literacy and a love of learning! I also encourage you to begin reaching out to your local legislators to begin the advocacy and promotion of school libraries as the budget process begins; it is never too early to begin promoting your library and the impact it makes on student success.
Library Enhancement Funding - Update & Information
School Library Enhancement Allocation
If you have not heard, libraries will be receiving $157.72 per state funded teacher unit for fiscal year 2020!
Budget Committees & Expenditures
I encourage you to advocate for the library’s needs to your colleagues to ensure your voice is heard. Also, lobby to be on your school’s budget committee to help ensure the needs of the school are met through the approved expenditures for the library enhancement funds.
Additional Library Funding (One-Time Allocation/Infusion)
Each system/district will also receive a portion of the $6M one-time allocation for library enhancement that will be divided per pupil. These funds will be up to the discretion of the system to allocate these funds as necessary for the enhancement of library media programs. The allocation is to follow the same guidelines as far as expenditures as outlined in the Administrative Code. Yet again, I suggest you speak with your library media contact/supervisor at the district level to have the needs of the school library be heard.
