WBMS Friday Notes
January 14-18
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Along with many other happenings at WBMS, this week we refocused our efforts on The Webb Way, which is part of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). We started our PBIS journey last year and are currently recognized as an Emerging PBIS school. The focus of PBIS is to proactively recognize and encourage student positive behavior in hopes of avoiding discipline issues later. On Monday, our theme was Webb Way winners make great choices and we wore our favorite team jersey. On Tuesday, we tied up negativity and wore our favorite hair bow, tie, or bow tie. On Wednesday, we teamed up and showed the Webb Way by dressing in matching outfits. Thursday was my personal favorite. We blasted poor choices away by dressing as a blast from the past. Today’s theme is follow the Webb Way and we wore our favorite t-shirts representing kindness, positivity, or superheroes. The students loved spirit week whether they dressed up or simply enjoyed the crazy outfits our staff wore.
This week we also hosted our popcorn celebration during lunch with music provided by our counselors, and 30 additional student names from each grade level were drawn from the Webb Way Ticket box and those students received a prize. Thank you to our fabulous PTA for providing a new popcorn machine and to all parents for volunteering to pop 1, 200 boxes of yumminess. Additionally, thank you to the local school police officers who joined in the popcorn celebration adding a “pop with a cop” theme as they passed out the treat.
As we continue to strengthen our culture and community, we asked our students for feedback this week to see what is going well and where we need to grow. Additionally, we requested input on adding to our current Webb Way value words – Respect, Citizenship, and Responsibility. Our staff and parent community will soon offer feedback on the words the students put forward, so together we can better define what it means to be part of WBMS.
Look for information on our upcoming Kindness Week during the week of February 11th- 14th!

Revved Up Kids Program at WBMS 1/22 and 1/23
In order to meet the requirements of SB401/Erin’s Law for 2018-2019, Fulton county Schools has contracted with Revved Up Kids www.revvedupkids.org to provide a personal safety/self-defense training program to help your student begin to understand how to respond to dangerous situations and people.
Here is more information about SB401: CNR SB 401 Erins Law handout.pdf
The training at Webb Bridge will take place on January 22 and 23, and we will provide a follow up resource to aid you in discussing the training with your student. We are going to host sessions during Connections classes and split our sessions by gender, females on Tuesday and males on Wednesday. The goals of the workshop are as follows:
• Teach the participants how predators select, approach, and groom their victims.
• Provide the participants with action steps they can take to reduce their risk of being targeted in their real worlds and their online worlds.
• Teach the participants how to use voice, body language and awareness skills to stay safer.
• Teach simple defensive tactics that can help participants escape an attack situation.
This program is taught in an age appropriate way that is empowering and informative. It should be noted that we will discuss sexual abuse, sexual violence and exploitation during the training. If you do not want your child to participate in the workshop, please print, sign, and return the form attached below to your student’s first Connections teacher by January 22:

Course Recommendations for next year at WBMS
Our teachers are currently engaged in the course recommendation process using The Webb Bridge Indicators of Success. Earlier this year, teachers analyzed student data to re-evaluate these recommendation guidelines specifically for our community; however, they do not replace the district course guidelines. These course recommendations will be sent home with students on Tuesday, February 5th and are due back on Tuesday, February 12th. It is important to review your student’s course recommendations at this time. You will be able to indicate a change to your student’s schedule if you feel it is warranted and fits within the county guidelines. Please know this is the first round of course recommendations, and teachers will revisit students’ recommended placement in May and make changes, if necessary, based on second semester progress. Here is a copy of both the WBMS Indicators of Success and the county guidelines: Middle School Initial Placement Guidelines 2019-2020 Indicators of Success 1-17-19.xlsx
Navigating Course Placement Parent University
We want to educate and partner with our parent community throughout this process; thus, we will be hosting a Parent University “Navigating Course Placement” on Thursday, February 7th from 6:15 – 7:30. It will begin in the WBMS gym for a general overview of the recommendation process and content class offerings. Parents will then have the opportunity to select break-out sessions hosted by our teachers for more in depth information on specific subjects. Please mark this date on your calendar and join us for a night of learning.

CALLING ALL TALENTED PEOPLE OF WEBB BRIDGE!!
Do you have an amazing talent that you want to share with our school community? If so, you need to consider auditioning for the 2019 Talent Show! The show is happening on Friday, March 22nd. There is one at 8:00 AM and one at 4:15 PM and both meetings will be held in Mr. Bernhardt’s room #813. Again, you only have to attend one of those meetings and if you come to the after school meeting, you must have a ride ready to pick you up from school by 4:45. If you have any questions, Mr. Bernhardt can be reached via email to bernhardtc1@fultonschools.org.
