Mrs. Haas' Third Grade News
October 11, 2015
Reading
Last week we learned about idioms. This week we will spend more time learning about figurative language. We will learn about alliterations, similes, metaphors, hyperboles, and personification. Check in with your third grader to see if they can give you an example of each.
Writer's Workshop
We are ready to publish our class book.
Math
We are ready to kick off Topic 4 this week. In this topic we will begin discussing multiplication. Students will make the connection between repeated addition and multiplication. We will also learn about arrays and how knowing multiplication can help you easily compute the amount in an array.
We will take our next timed test on Thursday this week. Students will have 4 minutes on this test. There will be a mix of addition and subtraction facts again. Another teacher in the district taught me how to move kids along on Xtramath.com. I will have it set up, so they are ready to practice both addition and subtraction facts this week.
Science
We will spend time learning about how environments can change.
Spelling
Due to the short week, there will be no spelling this week.
Are you on twitter? Follow our class @HaasErika. I send out tweets that allow you to see what's happening in our room. As a parent, it's always fun to see the activities that your kiddos do. Sometimes they come home forgetting all the fun and hard work they do all day!
