Mr. Schu Suggests ...
Advice from Scholastic's Ambassador of School Libraries
Kudos from W-FL Librarians:
Olivia Schauf, Williamson (5-12)
"I love Mr. Schu. I think not only is he really knowledgeable about his passion and topic, he also gives us all a much-needed pep talk about why we do what we do.
"I think one of the most important takeaways for me was asking myself what kids will remember about my libraries in 10 years. It keeps things in perspective in the day-to-day."
Kelly O'Brien-Fairley, Geneva (preK-2)
"I enjoyed him immensely- I knew nothing about him but I loved his energy level and also enjoyed the opportunity to make connections with other librarians."
Dawn Pressimone, Wayne (3-4)
"What an amazing way to spend the day at the end of the school year when our minds are going a mile a minute with things that need to be done. Today it was Mr. Schu's turn to go a mile a minute in sharing so many book recommendations, stories about his life, stories behind the books, and his wonderful friendship/connection with Kate DiCamillo."
Dawn adds, "I loved so many of the books he shared and can't wait to buy them for my library and use them with students. He also made sure that we participate in International Dot Day around September 15 and World Read Aloud Day on February 1, 2019."

Probably the biggest crowd favorite was After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again). Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat's powerful tale explains how the famous egg learns to deal with fear after his famous tumble off the wall. Stacy Merrill, Romulus K-12, ties the story into a MakerSpace activity ... her students drop eggs from various heights and calculate the damage report!
Like others in attendance, Paula Coffey from Frank M. Knight Elementary in Seneca Falls has already compiled a list of must-have favorites from Mr. Schu's engaging presentation. Everyone at our table, especially Bloomfield K-5 librarian Michelle Langley, fell in love with the F&G of Oopsie-Do! by Lori Richmond. Here's Tim Kubart's musical interpretation:
