Hope is All You Can Have In Tough Times
In the diary of Anne Frank, the theme “hope is all you can have in tough times,” is seen throughout the play. During their stay, “they had hope to live because of Miep, who brought them food and books”(388). While they stayed in the annex, Miep was the one who brought them food to eat, to stay alive. Also Miep brought them books so they could continue to get an education for when they could leave the annex. Another example of hope is all you can have in tough times is shown in the play when it stated,”every time the airplanes passed over the annex, call Anne could do was hope they didn't come after them”(400). If you would have been in Anne’s place, having hope would be the only thing you could do. If you were to not have hope in tough times, you would be living a miserable life, because you can't just assume the worst. Having hope gets you through the tough times even when you think it doesn't.
Be Courageous In Tough Times
In the Diary of Anne Frank, the theme “be courageous in tough times,” is seen throughout. During their stay at the annex, there were many times when arguments were made’ and they had to stick up for themselves. “Anne stuck up for herself by talking to back to her mother”(388). It takes courage to talk back to your parent, especially considering the situation Anne was in. Being stuck in a small place with many people, and having to be quiet during work hours. Another example of be courageous in tough times is shown in the play when, “they all started singing”(401). Since they were Jews, it was courageous of them to be singing joyfully, when there were Jews being killed in Auschwitz. Being courageous is a good thing, especially during rough times.
Book
In the Diary of Anne Frank, the symbol that represents Anne, is a book. Anne was full of excitement just like some characters in books. She also told her life story in her diary, which is now called “The Diary of Anne Frank”. Anne told her family many times during the play, that when she grew up she wanted to be a writer. Also during the play, she was always excited for Miep to bring more books, because Anne loved to read. The symbol of a book represents Anne very well.
