Homeroom Buzz
Mrs. Morris Room 220 - 11/17/14
What's Buzzing in Room 220?
In writing, we are really working hard on getting the format of expository prompts mastered. We are also practicing how to edit and revise. I have been conferencing with students to give suggestions for improvements. Please keep in mind the focus and skills for writing this quarter have changed. Students are expected to plan, draft, revise, and edit an essay in response to a given prompt that stays on topic and includes a beginning, middle, and end. The essay should include concise vocabulary and details. Please discuss the importance of written communication with your child.
In Math, we are still working on decimals and fractions. Please check with your student to learn the dates upcoming tests and when POW's are due.
In Social Studies, we are currently in the middle of VS 6 unit. We are learning about important Virginians such as George Mason, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. We are studying the US Constitution and the process in which it was made. Our unit test will be this Friday, November 21st. A study guide will go home on Monday. Please be sure that your child studies their interactive notebook, in addition to the study guide. Next week we will work on a writing prompt that will be connected to social studies. Be sure to ask your students what they wrote about. When we return from fall break, your student will be going to Mrs. Grogan's class to learn about Rocks.
