Principal's Update
Dear Wolverine Families ~
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break. We're grateful for our Adkins students and families and we were excited to welcome them back this past Monday. As mentioned in last month's newsletter, in an effort to provide instructional learning opportunities where teachers are able to give their full attention whether in the classroom or on-line, we are implementing some changes. We have reviewed each class period and have made decisions on which class periods this change will benefit. During these specific class periods, we will designate a face-to-face teacher and a virtual teacher. We have begun this process in 6th and 7th grade Science classes and these changes to instructional delivery will result in schedule changes for some students. Students whose schedule were affected received a letter or email notification yesterday. Our goal is to continue to look for opportunities within our other content areas where these changes can occur. Please be assured that students will be notified of any additional changes if and when they occur.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a happy and safe Holiday Season!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Norma Cullum
Principal
News from the Library
Adkins Middle School Library offers over 10,000 print books and 4,000 e-books. Students may check out two books or e-books at a time and have two weeks to return these items. If virtual students are wanting to check out a print book from our library, please send Mrs. Sanchez, School Librarian, a message in Canvas to schedule a curbside appointment.
December Book Bingo- Read books and win library prizes! Visit the library or view the Library’s Canvas to participate in our December Book Bingo.
Accelerated Reader-Students recently took the AR STAR assessment online during their RLA class which determined each student’s reading level range and also determined point goals needed each six weeks. Students are encouraged to reach their AR goal each six weeks. The goal is to support independent reading and also increase student reading levels. Students can AR quiz on books through the AR link found in the Library Canvas course. Parents may also request their own parent AR Login by emailing the School Librarian at Kimberly.Sanchez@ccisd.us. Parents may monitor their child’s reading progress within the AR program when using their login.
Book Club- Students read, discuss, and incorporate technology into book projects on Thursdays from 4:15 p.m.-5:00 p.m. If interested, please send Mrs. Sanchez a Canvas message to obtain a permission slip.
Technology
Interested students who would like to bring their own device to school and utilize our campus wi-fi need to visit the library to connect their devices. CCISD Technology requires permission based on Online Enrollment prior to connecting personal devices to our campus wifi. Please note that the school is not liable for any damage or theft relating to personal devices.
If your child is in need of a device or wifi hotspot, please contact the School Librarian at Kimberly.Sanchez@ccisd.us to be placed onto the campus waiting list.
It is recommended that students bring their personal devices to campus everyday to participate in classroom instruction.

We would love to highlight our beautiful gratitude trees that our students helped create during the month of November! (pictured below)
Each leaf contains a gratitude statement from a student.
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Arrival: We encourage students to arrive on campus no earlier than 8:40am. Any student that arrives prior to that time will remain outside the campus until the first bell rings at 8:42 am. All 6th grade students will enter through the cafeteria doors maintaining a 6ft. distance. All 7th and 8th grade students will enter through the front entrance maintaining a 6ft. distance. Students who wish to have breakfast from the cafeteria may enter at 8:40am, using the double door entrance closet to the cafeteria at the front of the school. These students will proceed to the cafeteria, pick-up their breakfast and take it to their first period classroom.
Dismissal: Students will exit the campus at different exit locations based on their 8th period classroom.
Home Access Center
Home Access Center is the district’s communication platform that grants access to students’ official grades, attendance, transcripts, and more.
