"In The Know" 4/25/2017
A Message from the Leadership Team
How do you successfully integrate the latest technology to assist and enhance language skills?
Just ask Lindita Lici’s Class! With the help of Marie Coleman and Vanessa Alvarez, they used the latest technology in a very engaging (and yes fun!) lesson. While technology is an important role in supporting language learning, the effectiveness of the tool is reliant upon the expertise of the instructor (and the support of an amazing team of tech experts!) who facilitates the learning environment. Using technology is not in and of itself a “goal”, but rather technology should be a means for language learners to use language in authentic tasks. Please click-on the attached link to see the standards-based lesson that is an interactive and meaningful way to help develop proficiency. Great job.

Adult Ed Tours have begun at Lorenzo Walker Technical College. They began with a successful start last night. Students from Golden Gate Adult Ed evening classes got an opportunity to see all that LWTC has to offer. The tour allowed students to see the many program offerings and to get information on how to plan their career pathways. They learned the requirements for acceptance, tuition costs and ways to help pay for the expenses, completion timelines, job prospects, and more. Tours continue all week and limited van transportation is being offered to all sites for students who might not otherwise be able to attend. Please encourage students who might benefit from such a tour to take advantage of it. See below for remaining dates and times.

Now that we know the basics, let's move on to Buying a home.
This week let's look at Homeownership: Benefits & realities.Community Resources
Community organizations are a great place to find helpful resources, places that can help us with sometimes difficult situations. Community organizations depend on volunteers to help provide those resources. ONE of the very real ways to become part of a community is to become a volunteer within that community. You interact, speak and assist those living in your own backyard. Volunteering is a great way to practice our skills and also can be a great way to look for future employment.
This week, let's take a look at 2 great agencies. The Salvation Army provides direct service to community members in need. The mission of St. Matthew’s House is based on the principle, “to impact the lives of the least of these in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined.” A representative from both the Salvation Army and St. Matthews House will be visiting Lorenzo Walker Technical College this Friday, April 28th in Mustang Alley from 11:00 AM to Noon.
Music Lovers may want to check out Ms. Roberta Marie Kiszer's upcoming recital!
