Good Apple Award Winners Recognized
The Governing Board thanked Cambrian community members for their outstanding service to the District. We are so grateful for the selfless contributions made to advance the students of the Cambrian School District. They are: Adam Grigsby, Dave Hicks, Joel Wallace, Colette Stratman, Carolyn Buckelew and Catherine Puntanilla.
Adam Grigsby and Dave Hicks: The Farnham Staff recognize our Home and School Club Treasurers. This positive team has worked tirelessly over the last few years to keep the budget balanced, simplified, and bring our practices into the 21st century. Dave Hicks & Adam Grigsby have done such an outstanding job that they have now been tapped to be the treasurer team for our Cambrian Education Foundation. You can also find these two volunteering during the school day throughout the school year.
Joel Wallace: Joel Wallace asked to volunteer with the Price 8th grade girls basketball team and became the assistant coach. He attended all practices and games and by working well together, the team made it to the finals! His expertise and coaching experience was greatly appreciated. Joel should be recognized for all the years of support he has shown our schools.
Colette Stratman: Colette is always there to lend a helping hand! Recently, she spearheaded our first Family Dance in 3 years. She supported our lead for the Fall Festival and ensured the event went smoothly. In addition, Colette is our Home and School Board vice president of middle school and designs slides for HSC meetings. She is our biggest cheerleader and helps with Steindorf’s newsletter or Facebook page.
Carolyn Buckelew: Carolyn has worked as a contractor for Cambrian for 16 years at three of our sites and also volunteers as a Fammatre parent. She supports students with motor and sensory concerns and often uses her breaks to offer her space as a reward for students not on her caseload in the Wonderland she created for our Motor room. Her knowledge around motor development, sensory regulation, and emotional regulation is an asset to all of us.
Catherine Puntanilla: Catherine Puntanilla’s huge heart extends to the Sartorette Home & School Club as Community Outreach Coordinator and driving force behind getting families the support they need during major holidays. Catherine also organizes the school’s staff lunches, making school event promotional posters, and volunteering for nearly every school event, from picture day, to Monster Bash, and family dances.

Budget: Second Interim Report for 2022-23
The Governing Board, having reviewed the Interim Report, which reveals pertinent financial and budgetary information, (1) approved the Second Interim Report, (2) found that the District will be able to meet its financial obligations through June 30, 2023, and the two subsequent fiscal years, and, (3) authorized the Board President to certify and file a "positive" financial certification statement with the Santa Clara Office of Education.
Education Code Sections 42130 and 42131 require school district governing boards to certify their district's projected year-end and subsequent years' financial condition twice a year, First Interim (July 1 – October 31) and Second Interim (July 1 – January 31). The certification shall be based upon required financial and budgetary reports, cumulatively entitled the "Interim Report".
There are three possible “certifications” that can be made: (1) positive certification, meaning the District will meet its financial obligations for the current fiscal year and subsequent two fiscal years; (2) qualified certification, meaning that if certain events do or do not occur, the District may not meet its financial obligations for the current fiscal year or two subsequent fiscal years; and (3) negative certification, meaning that the District will be unable to meet its financial obligations through fiscal year-end or two subsequent years.
After reviewing the Interim Report, the County Office of Education can either “agree” with the Board’s Certification, or disagree and make a change to the Board’s Certification, and shall notify the District within 75 days after the close of the reporting period of their review.
Chief Financial Officer, Dr. John Pappalardo presented the Second Interim Report.

Contract Agreement: California School Boards Association's Legal Services Program
The Governing Board approved the contract agreement with California School Boards Association's Legal Services Program. Legal Services are a part of every school district's budget and now California School Boards Association (CSBA) offers cost-effective legal advice and legal services in a subscription-based program.
There are basically two components to the Legal Services Program: (1) access to CSBA attorneys who can provide low-cost legal services on all matters related to public education, and (2) unlimited access to their online Resource Library. e.g. MOUs, salary schedules, webcasts, etc... The resources have been collected from various school districts across the state.
The District wishes to enter into an agreement with the California School Boards Association to have access to their online resource library and use their Legal Services attorneys when necessary.
The annual subscription will be approximately $1,158 (10% of CSBA's annual membership dues) and attorney fees rage from $100 to $200 per hour.
