Catholic Schools Week Celebrations
It has been a busy and beautiful week of celebrating Catholic education at Saint Rita School. We began last weekend by coming together at all of the Saint Rita weekend Masses to worship as a faith community. We recognized the Catholic Schools Week Honorees for 2018, Annette and Mike Cihak. On Monday, students dressed as their future professions. Tuesday, we welcomed grandparents with song and into our classrooms. We celebrated our nation in an outdoor flag ceremony on Wednesday morning. Our spelling bees were exciting as all of the studying paid off for our top winners, Jocelyn Bui, Michelle Tinsley, Titus Kim, and Thomas Arenas. Students celebrated the importance of literacy by reading with partners and enjoying milk and cookies. Local police officers visited our early childhood classes to teach about safety and that police are our friends. On Friday, the first graders led the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord at Mass with Bishop Michael Olson. At the end of the liturgy, all were invited to receive the blessing of the throat for the Feast of Saint Blaise.
After Mass, families and volunteers were celebrated at a reception. Bishop Olson visited with parents and grandparents and spoke about his appreciation for the sacrifice they make to send their children to Saint Rita. He reminded them that Catholic education is not just for the students, but it also provides an opportunity for families to collaborate and grow in their faith. Bishop Olson complimented our school community for its diversity and strength of community. He loves to visit Saint Rita, and he enjoyed his visit.
I thank you all for your continued support and dedication to Catholic education. I look forward to the future of Saint Rita Catholic School and many successes for our students.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Mary Burns
