Weekly Update- March 9, 2018

Week at a Glance

Reading/Writing- This week we've really focused on elements of informational writing and moves that informational writers use. We then tried to add those moves to our own writing. Some examples of these "moves" are statistics, pictures with captions and/or labels, descriptions, vocabulary words & definitions, lists, etc.

Math- We are moving along through Unit 5- multiplication & division. We've been really focusing on math stories and building a conceptual understanding. I am so impressed with the knowledge students have gained already!

Science- We are finishing up our unit on circuits next week! Students will get to use Scratch to program a blinking light!

Social Studies- We started Junior Achievement today! Huge thank you to Suzanne Bush for taking on the responsibility of teaching these lessons! :)

No homework this week- continue working on Prodigy and Prepdog! :)

We started a Fairy Tale Tournament for March Madness!

Big picture

We will be taking the reading MAP test on Wednesday March 21st

Our Students are AWESOME! :)

On Wednesday of this week, two teachers from Upper Arlington came in to observe our classroom during math. They were so impressed with the students' mathematical thinking, perseverance, problem solving, and how engaged they were! I was so proud of them and it's so nice when "outsiders" notice how awesome they are and how hard they work.

Thank you for everything you do at home to make them who they are in the classroom! :)
