COVID-19 Information
Help Stop the Spread of Infectious Disease
Here are ways families and caregivers can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other illness producing organisms:
Healthy people-
Continue your normal routine. This means you can continue to participate in public gatherings such as work, school, sports, or social activities.
Get your flu shot, and stay up-to-date on other routine childhood and adult immunizations.
Wash your hands with soap and water or, at minimum, use an alcohol-based hand rub, which may be less effective than soap and water.
Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces such as desks, doorknobs, handrails.
People who are sick-
Stay home and avoid close contact with family or friends.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow shirt sleeve. Throw away the tissue immediately and wash your hands.
Wash your hands with soap and water or, at minimum, an alcohol-based hand rub, which may be less effective than soap and water.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Avoid close contact with anyone else who is sick
If you believe you may have contracted COVID-19 call ahead before going to see a doctor or an emergency room to prevent the spread of illness. Tell them your symptoms and that you suspect you were exposed to someone with COVID-19 or had recent travel to an area that is experiencing community spread
Consult the CDC’s “How Sick is Too Sick” Guide from the CDC in English and Spanish.
Garfield County School District is working closely with state and local health agencies and other government agencies to follow expert direction and make informed decisions. Closing schools would be a more drastic measure and would have significant repercussions on the community and health care system so we do not anticipate closures. However, we have planned for the possibility and are continually planning should we need to close schools. There is a high chance we will limit large group gatherings and school travel. Direction could change at any time so we will do our best to get information out to our families as we know more.
